Description Beautiful Aunt Virginia at a recent party. She is remarkable!

She was telling us about the time War of the Worlds was on radio and everyone thought the Martians had really landed. Her Dad was a newspaper editor and said.. "no that is not true ...it's a silly idea".

last year I had a conversation with my grand mom in france (she was 97) and he was telling me that the first movie that she saw in was "the workers coming out of the factory"....of the Lumiere brothers. And that hapend to be the first movie that they did....the first movie that was ever done!! amazing, he? guess I will be able to say the same about internet and the first cell phones

I love the look of her hair. I want to run my fingers through it. This photograph reminds me of an interviewCharlie Rose was doing with a brother and sister whose grandparents had founded Duke University. They both appeared to be int their seventies, but as thei interview went on it became apparent they were in their late nineties. They were w quite amazing, their faculties all very much intact. Aunt Virginia seems very alive too.

You would like her and she'd like you too. She has wonderful stories and is kind and gentle too. We see her pretty often because she lives in Lansing. In the last year or so she's moved to an assisted living apartment. Now she doesn't have to cook her meals and that sort of thing..otherwise, she's totally independent. Additionally she is stylish and beautiful!

Great portrait! Women like this are such wonderful role models for aging well. For so many, growing old means growing mentally dim, but we have to be aware that many people manage to retain much of their sharpness into their nineties. Maybe it's a genetic throw of the dice, who knows? A couple of days ago, Peter and I drove down to see his mom for her 88th birthday -- she is as mentally sharp and fit as ever. It's funny because to her we are "the kids," and she treats us accordingly. The next day we visited my SF kids, and they treat us like visiting elderlies. Eye of the beholder -- always eye of the beholder. Anyway, loved your posting.

Thanks. Up here in Northern Michigan there seem to be a lot of older people. I think they come for the summer from Florida etc. Dan plays jazz gigs often where we are the youngest people there! I see all kinds... almost dead (in the head and otherwise) and those who are amazing even in their 90s! It seems so much has to do with how one lives his life. I'm not sure but I DO know that I intend to be sharp and awesome at 95 and older! We'll meet for coffee in SF.

Good. Too many things can happen before I hit 95. Let me know when you are planning a trip to SF, and I'll try to get there then. The city is a lot of fun at holiday time in December.

My daughter, granddaughter and I stayed at Union square (not on the street) and did Christmas shopping last year! Yes, it's fun. things are looking good for a return to California sometime this fall. xo
