Thank you very much, I wanted to show many key elements of the book indeed, the cathedral of course, but also all the "ananke" meaning : spider, gallows, religious, demonic and alchemical symbols, and finally omnipresence of death.

Such a sensitive portrayal, I love it. Even without the title I could tell that this is Esmeralda. It feels like I look at her with Claude's eyes, inflicting her with a symbol-laden gaze as she sleeps, pure and unknowing
Also, the hair! OMG, the hair are perfect! Whisps, locks, swirls... perfect hair, well done!

Thank you kindly
This is exactly that : a pure and peaceful face, and yet a so tragic fate. It is a Frollo's point of view indeed : the contemplation of this untroubled beauty enchants him at first, and then leads him progressively to the most tortuous and morbid thoughts.
I'm glad you love the hair ! I love drawing hair (and well, Frollo for that does not give me much satisfaction...)

Thank you very much !
It is so easy to associate the book with symbols that many spider webs could be done like this one. Here is the result of a spontaneous impulse, I didn't really planned anything and drew symbols as they came, but I'm sure it could be even more striking.

The details in spider web...So clever! You even included a salamander! A lot people keep forgetting about this symbol.
I can tell it's one of best ideas for NDdP illustration - it's full of meanings written in the plotline what has a form and structure of a spider web - an essence of the book.

You're incredible, you even noticed the salamander ! I had a great time in including all the symbols coming to my mind, but at the end I looked at my drawing and thought : "well, now that it is finished I don't see anything anymore..." But if you saw the salamander, I am reassured (even if few people looks at details as you do I'm sure).
The salamander came to my mind when I was thinking about alchemical symbols, and struck me like an evidence. But in fact it was more difficult than I thought to incorporate appropriate symbols. The vision I had at the beginning was a great spider web, deep like an abyss in its centre, and in which the symbols evolved from bright and luminous forms to deformed and ignominious presages of death. Well, the result is a little more conventional and uniform than what I imagined at first, but I think it remains interesting, so.
Anyway, thank you greatly for your comment !

Oh yes, examining little details became my little obsession - I noticed that faithful book!Frollophiles always include a lot of Easter eggs in their artwork. Have you ever focused on *Agriografo 's drawings? Her "I saw a goat beside you" is like the dirtiest picture of Esmeralda I've ever seen (clever mockery of a womanhood and sainthood!). But let's talk about your drawing... I kissed my screen during recognizing all these symbols and details from the book - believe me, I was quite excited: "Spider, cathedral...oh look! A crucifix! And the gallows!", but a salamander really got me...

Thank you again for this pleasure for my frollophilia~~

Agriografo's works are wonderful, so full of meanings indeed.
I can't help laughing imagining you discovering the symbols, I'm glad you had such a great time.
I wanted more demonic symbols, but I didn't find any (my djali is really not great), so there are just the burning crucifix and the pentacle, which is a bit limited. But I like the cathedral, the gallows and the spider. I thought it would be easier to introduce alchemical material, but I just use symbols for "gold", "mercury", "philosopher's stone" and "athanor". My raven was supposed to be the one at the gates of Notre-Dame, but it's not really convincing...

Yes, the spider web was an excuse to draw all the symbols I could,
I've tried to go from light to death, like her life and fate.
