This is beautiful! And "my" green too!

Is your bobbin lace method anything like tatting at all? I've always wanted to learn both but until my kids are older, i won't have the time or patience, I'm afraid!

Thank you Well, tatting is a bit different technique... There are many kinds of bobbin lace but here [link] you can see the cushion with bobbins - I use pretty the same. But my laces are of other kind that those on Wikipedia We have pretty specific bobbin lace in the Czech Republic

Fascinating! I only wish that was something my Omama had taught me how to do as well as crocheting & knitting... (she was from Bohemia, which I think is now part of the Czech Republic) then i may have known how to do that too!

Well, Bohemia is an ancient name for the Czech Republic which is still used for it's largest part, along with Moravia and Silesia. Pity that she didn't teach you, really...

Ahhh... thanks for the geography lesson!

Yes, she managed to teach me crochet and knitting but when she tried to teach me embroidery it was a hopeless cause; that kind of needlework & I simply refused to mix.

Hehehe... talk me about embroidery... I can only cross-stitch and even that not properly and it takes me AGES to finish something... Laces are more fun... I prefer doing every now and then something else than only tiny crosses

Heh, yeah, too much like sewing which is a cuss word to me And it's amazing how many people will assume because one does a yarn/thread art, that one also must know how/love to do stuff like that. Not me!

Heh... sewing... also nothing for me... I don't like sewing machines and I never did anything properly by hand in my school lessons (well I was like ten years old that time so no wonder but Grandma did all my homeworks ). So... I'd better stick to laces.

Well, in fact it's not crochet but a bobbin lace which is quite different... Thanks for your kind words

bluemandolin In reply to Myrthilla [2007-01-27 02:49:45 +0000 UTC]

bobbin lace? I've never heard of that. Could you explain the difference for me?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Myrthilla In reply to bluemandolin [2007-01-27 10:24:38 +0000 UTC]

Well, I don't speak English so well to explain it to you properly, but you can try this link on Wikipedia: [link] I know the page doesn't show exactly the type of lace I'm making (there are many kinds of bobbin lace as you can see on that page as well), but the process of creating is quite the same and you should get your image about this kind of lace.

Thanks I can't wait to see your other butterfly. I don't meet many lacemakers on DA. I didn't make the whole pattern for this one, I only edited some parts. I'm not really good at making patterns...
