I pound against the bars of a cage wrought in grief
And scream a tale of love and pain
Just begging for relief
Please alleviate my pain
Tell me how to feel
Do something for once dear ‘parents’
Anything to make me stop feeling this way
The bars grow hot
My world goes black
Yelling
Cutting
Screaming
Bleeding
Crying
So empty of life
Yet so full of feeling
I press against the bars
And embrace the burning sensation of my hate
Looking to see if you even notice me
Yet once again you see nothing
And my pleas fall on deaf ears
I recede into the shadows
At the back of my cage
My only protection against life
And all its complicated patterns
Of failure and pain
Not to say this wasn’t expected
For years it’s been the same
And I think
As silent tears course down
My invisible face
Do you even remember my name?
