Description For more about the Holiday Card Project this year: Holiday Card Project 2018!

It’s all done~ (And the pictures really don’t do it justice, my scanner really doesn’t do it justice, so I’ll be uploading a short video of the card and envelope over on my Instagram directly)

This is my first year participating in the Holiday Card Project, in part because this is the first year that I can remember the free 1-Month Core membership being offered to participants, but also because I haven’t had much time to make art simply because I want to and I’m still feeling crafty from my last school project. (And I may or may not have had some of the amazing card designs I’ve seen on HSN’s crafting block also on my mind...)

Luckily, mom has had these blank cards and envelopes for years so all I had to do was actually design the card.

Originally, I was going to just ink the tree, but it didn’t feel right while I was practicing. Luckily, I remembered my mom had some glittery green foam stuff. One stencil, scissors, and some hot glue later and I had a fat little 3D tree. then I glued some red sequins on for ornaments (and one gold for the star on top) and fluffy pipe cleaner for snow/tinsel.

I recently got a set of Speedball calligraphy ink, and I used the gold for all the borders, the white for the snow on the front, blue for the sky, and some brown for the trunk when the brown Tombow brush marker kind of faded against the white ink.

Then I used some scrapbooking stamps and Pentel sparkle pop gel pens to add a little extra pizzazz on the bottom.

Inside I wanted to continue the tree motif I had more or less unintentionally started. More sequins, more stamp & gel pens. The little quote I borrowed from one of the vintage postcards graciously posted by Yesterdays-Paper since I am really, really not that great at greeting card phrases.

On the left is a bit of ribbon my mom had that I really wanted to use, but it didn’t fit in that well. But this part of the card looked really empty before, so I stuck a bit there.

The back of the card is pretty simple; more gold border, a stamp for the “handmade by” and my signature/logo.

It’s not perfect, but I’m quite happy with how it turned out anyway Makes me want to make cards more often.

I know a matching envelope isn’t required, but I couldn’t help myself. Gold edges, one tree sequin on the flap, and a repeat of the gel-penned stamp from the inside of the card on the back. (I would’ve put one of the presents from the front of the card on the opposite corner, but I have misplaced the stamp.)

So these two alongside my dA username on a slip of paper are currently in a bigger envelope waiting to be mailed off.

My only true regret is that I won’t be there to see the recipient’s reaction to the card, but as long as it brings them a little joy, that’s all I can really ask for.

If I can just make it through my final assignments today and tomorrow, maybe I’ll finally have some time to get back to my normal art stuff. Here’s hoping.
