SHORT---

Been watching (and dreaming for some reason) a lot of Fairly Odd Parents lately, so here are two of my favorite characters. This is my first entirely digital art piece, and took me many long afternoons to finish. I have a job now and am not used to this much lack of free time, so not much room for art. Scroll down for brushes used.

LONG---

As stated in the short, I've been watching a lot of F.O.P. lately. I've always sort of kept my eye on the show; its clever and well-written, as per the usual for Butch Hartman, but never really obsessed over it or anything. And then one day I had a dream, a dream with posed itself as a sort of sequel for this series (I'll go more into it when I do art for it, maybe; thinking of writing fanfic actually). Ever since I've been a lot more interested in the series and its characters. There is a lot of room to go for this sort of thing, which might be why the series just can't seem to stay ended.

I had to do this pic though because these two are just too adorable. I think they're the best couple I've seen in a cartoon. Granted, they are an EXTREMELY exaggerated version of the nagging wife and the doofus husband, but they still never fail to make me laugh with almost every line. Cosmo especially; an idiot has to be done just right to avoid making them annoying (I'm looking at you, Billy from Grim Adventures), and Cosmo manages to usually hit the amusing mark rather well. He reminds me of Gourry from the Slayers anime, only with even less intelligence (and Gourry once asked if “fiance” was a kind of pickle). But what both have in common, is a deep loyalty and devotion to their friends and interests. Wanda I like because she's usually the one to voice what I'm thinking at the moment, which usually is along the lines of “that's probably not a good idea” or “have you thought this through at all? Wait, this is Timmy and Cosmo; I'm surprised you thought it through this much”.

My other two favs aren't in this art, because it is a couple pic. No room for Jorgan, who makes me laugh every time he talks (his voice acting is half the fun; what he says is also funny). Funny tough guys are always a riot, and he's one of the better ones. I also really like Poof; in fact, since my dreams, he's actually my favorite character. I think there's just so much potential for personality there, and they do a good job with him being a baby fairy and only able to say 3-4 words (mostly his name). Of his entire family, he seems to really have the most common sense, even more than Wanda. But he also seems to have a bit of a rebellious/danger-loving/rule-breaking streak (most likely thanks to the influence of his god-brother, Timmy).

Show analysis aside, turning to ART now!

This piece I've been working on on-and-off for well over a week, maybe even two. I had just gotten a new job, which to me was a miracle (SSI disability is irritating). I have never actually worked full time before, so I've sort of been all about the job lately and haven't had much free time to work on art. But regardless, work on art I did.

It started as a doodle I did, but I decided to experiment with it. What you see is my first completely digital artpiece. I call it that despite the fact that the sketch was in pencil, because this is the first piece where I finally bit the bullet and used the PEN TOOL! That's right, the outline was vectored over my rough sketch and then the rest is photoshop history. So, discounting the rough, this was all done on the computer. I had been trying to teach myself Illustrator recently, but that's not going so well with me having a new job. I know Photoshop better, so I just used the pen tool and vectored from there.

Not just the outline either. The hair shine and 80% of the shading is vectored as well. I've been having fun! Hopefully, I'll get the hang of this soon enough so that it won't take me days and days just to get the shaping done right.

Background was inspired by sunlight and fluffy clouds that one would see when flying, plus some little magic sparkles to complete that magical atmosphere.

Wings were inspired from an old art piece of my twin sister's, :hhb-bookmaster.deviantart.com/… . I basically gave my own twist to it, although I still love her version a lot; those wings have got a nice glow to them.

BRUSHES!:
Cloud brushes from para-vine.deviantart.com/art/C…
Brushes used for the sunlight from javierzhx.deviantart.com/art/G…
Sparkles are that star brush I used in my TMNT pic; from kuschelirmel-stock.deviantart.…

One of these days I'll go back to the many art pieces I was PLANNING to finish . . .

Fairly Odd Parents are copyrighted to Nickelodeon and Butch Hartman, you absurd genius you.
