Description

Here are our oldest living chickens(then there are those whose age is unknown), they just turned 7 years old! All 3 photos are from 2019. We got our first chickens in 2011 for anyone who doesn't know.
Domino and Ruska are mixed breed but they're both big (Ruska is taller than Domino btw), their previous owner said that they're a mix of some fighting chicken breed and it shows and Softis is a Finnish landrace chicken Iitti/iittiläinen(Softis isn't very big especially compared to Ruska and Domino but she isn't smaller than a normal iittiläinen would be).
We got Ruska and Domino in July 2012(they are about the same age as Softis), mom and their previous owner both thought they were hens but they turned out to be roosters. We're like 99,9% certain that Ruska and Domino are brothers or at least half brothers. We got a then 3 year old hen from the person for free as the chickens that were supposed to be hens were roosters. That then 3 year old hen is the oldest chicken we ever had, she passed away in October 2018 aged 9 . Fun fact 4 out of 5 of our oldest chickens(only Softis is not connected to her) are somehow connected to Aplari(the 9 year old hen), she hatched Reikä and Lihis in 2013 and they're now 6 years old.

Softis is 1 out of 6 of the first chicks that ever hatched here and the last one of them alive and the 2nd last passed away back in 2017.
Here is a photo of Ruska, Domino, Softis and a few others as chicks in 2012 -2012 chicks -

Domino has always been a bit shy, he doesn't like being touched but he always begs for food and is without a doubt one of the most colorful chickens we've ever owned.
Ruska is also a bit shy but doesn't run away like Domino does and it seems that Ruska has become less shy in the last few years and is quite fine with being pet. Ruska hurt his leg around November 2018 and we thought he wouldn't make it as he couldn't walk much at all but it has mostly healed, he still limps a little but he can walk  just fine.
Softis is fine being picked up at pet but it doesn't mean she is absolutely fine with it but she hatched her first chicks in 2013 and that means she'll be picked up and carried around and such if we take the chicks outside. Softis without a doubt has hatched more chicks than anyone else we've had. She hatched 11 chicks in 2014 which is a lot to say the least. It appears that Softis hatched her last chicks in 2018 and I don't blame her for quitting, she was an awesome mom but I can't imagine how hard it is for a chicken so old to spend 21 days staying still and barely eating anything and then take care of the chicks that hatch.
I can't imagine what it is like being without them but sadly one day they won't be there anymore. So many things have changed in the time Ruska, Domino and Softis have been here. Many chickens have come and gone and we got quails in 2015.

I don't know if 7 years is a long time to you but I was 13 years old back in 2012 for f-cks sake, it's a f-cking long time to me. I've grown up with these chickens and it makes me happy <3
