Description In June at the Baikal Lake, one evening when we finished in the terrain early, I took my high rubber boots, art stuff, birch staff, camera, google, gps, radio transmitter and warm clothes, waded across the channel back to the bogs, sat down and tried to do a small plain air painting of the beautiful landscape there. I tried to find a dry piece of turf, but still got my butt all soaked. I also checked the gps and paid special attention not to sit near any nesting birds so that I wouldn't disturb them. Twice during my 3-hour evening painting, a Eurasian Curlew (Numenius arquata orientalis) flew over, landed near me, and started walking in half a circle around me, only about 20 meters far and was making loud sounds every few seconds. Never before did I have such an encounter with this beautiful bird. Luckily I brought the camera with me and took many pictures. We were there, looking at each other from a close distance, seemingly alone in the Siberian plains, only with other birds calling nearby. It was a very beautiful and intense experience.

Wow, that really sounds like it was an amazing experience; out on the Siberian plains, only with a Curlew for company - that's something you'll experience once in a lifetime Awesome that you had your camera with you as well, usually fate will have it that the most fantastic animal encounters happen when the cameras are left at home haha. Love his/her beautiful patterning and extraordinary beak.

How right you are! A few of the first days there, I didn't bring my camera everywhere and I so came to regret it (like when we met freshly clutched tiny fluffy curlew babies! And since then I took special care to bring the camera with me almost everywhere

Awwww curlew babies, that's adorable But yeah, taking the camera everywhere from that point on seems to be the best, and only cure for 'photographer's luck'

Hm... tohle už je fotka, že jo? Není to další zrádný pokus o zmatení pozorovatele dokonalou malbou? Strašný, díky tobě ještě začnu poznávat více ptáků, než sýkorky, sovy... a ty zatracené holuby. ^^
Krásná koliha

Ne, že by to byl můj oblíbený druh, mám spíš oblíbenou skupinu - bahňáky, a tam i koliha patří. Takže by se vlastně dalo říct, že jo
