i already told you i like it, but i wouldve enjoyed it more if the character had the less cartoon, and had the balance we talked about. good job miss.

Cool! These turned out awesome. Its acrylic right? I'm too afraid of arylic to touch it. Because its so opaque it's entirely too easy to accidentally cover up nice looking line work and stuff like that. sometimes I'll get something that looks nice and then end up loosing it entirely when I go to make corrections (because its easy to mistakenly cover up stuff.)
My favorite fart (<-- oops, that was a typo, I meant part. But I like fart better, so I'm not changing it) of this piccy is the leg warmers. And out of the three versions I'm liking the anger one best. The depressed version, in my opinion, has the coolest background.

*curtsies*
yurp... acrylics... and part way through, I stopped and wondered why I didn't just use watercolour.... that would've been much easier...
but mebbe not... Im not too great with doing clouds in watercolours, now that i think of it...
but yeah... acrylic is really solid, though you can water it down to make it abit more translucent, only problem is, you loose some of that heavy, "solid" feeling that the original solution gives/gave you. If you notice, alot of painters don't have lines, either that, or they put them in afterwards (which i tried to do, but my tiny brush is getting abit fizzly :T)
I love this charactre the best out of all my characters... I guess becuase it's supposed to be like a small chunk of me? Iunno... but I've been drawing it/her alot often... usually the same outfit... I need leg warmers, my legs get oh-so cold waiting for the bus!!! @.o Plus... I wanna look cool, nyaaa!
I had fun with anger... I looked at some Junko Mizuno pictures for inspiration, because she has this one image that i really wanted to base the pose on (cant find it now, though...). I don't like her eyes, though... I shoulda made them red-grey instead of that pearly-purpleyish colour. Meh. I dont care for depressed's BG... I needed to work on the darkish top-right corner more, but i was becomming frustrated abit...

I think it's good that you went with the acrylics instead of the water colours. The acylics gave it a bold, graphic design type look that the water colours would not have been able to do. Thats especially true because you used alot of strong colour combos (like the green with the yellow, or the red with the green, and blue with green.) It would be cool to see you do some vector art in this style, that would look cool. Speaking of vector art, have you seen Ragner's work? Very cool stuff, he has an art book called Chromaphile, which is just amazing. Here's his web site...

Makes me want to do some vector stuff, but I'm busy working on my portfolio right now. I was going to go into graphic design (cause you don't have to draw as well to do it,) but came to the realization that it would break my heart if I were to put 'learning to draw' into the background of my life. So I'm still applying for GD, but also for animation, which means I have to get the portfolio requirements together as fast as I can before I get a letter telling me to come for the orientation. Bleh, the required perspective drawings are killing me. I like loose line work, not precise perspective drawings.
I liked the pose for your anger drawing too. Very expressive, in fact they're all expressive. You're good at capturing a pose. I liked the depressed one, the colours are nice and the facial expression turned out well. and the eye colour for anger looks fine, it adds to the whole mood of the picture.

*pisses herself*
OMGOMGOMG I HAVE THIS BOOK!
*teary eyes from excitement*
seen here...-->> [link] ((dont ask why i had that ready... but yeah, scroll down abit...)) I got it when the labirynth were here back in novemberish? yeah... I love art books... they go together with my TPB's... he has two other books that I wanted to buy, I know L had the tiki lounge book, but I didnt get it (gotta watch that dough flow, yo...)
Im still learning, really... and there's so many things I want to do, or learn to do, but its like... when? right now, everything (in dma) is very much like theory, not really what Im going for, though there are some good stuff... and i know it'll get better and what-not... but I gotta admit, even do a little figure drawing last year helped me alot; I kinda wished that I had a private model... it'd make drawing certain poses easier... or at least someone to help me take pictures... y'know, stock photos and blah blah...
as for portfolio stuffers... check thalia's two galleries, if you've not recently; she's posted some stuff from her portfolios, plus read her sketchblog, there's stuff there thats not on here... I really hope she gets in. Im thinking that I may apply to Illustration @ sheridan... once I get my courage together and snap my balls on, hurr hurr... I really like illust, and I'd like to do more stuff with it, just not really sure what. I see all these people doing design, and Im like "that looks cool!" but... how do i get there? Bah... so much to think about... so much to work on... POST STUFF FROM YOUR PORTFOLIO WHEN YOU GET THE CHANCE!!!

Hehehe, 'snap your balls on' ahem...
Isn't Ragner amazing!? I love the cover of chromaphile, the colour choices he used are gorgeous. My fav part of the book is the end where he has the monster series. Did you know that he'd supposed to be releasing Chromaphile 2 sometime this year?
DMA is a good program, but when I took it, it really seemed kind of like an intro to so many different aspects of digital media. There was web design, 3-d animation, graphic design, a bit of story boarding. You're right though, lots of theory. Even back when I took that program I was disapointed in the lack of drawing lessons. Its a good thing to learn theory, but when it comes down to it, those of us in the creative field can only be at our best if we can draw confidently. I did two years of DMA and when I was finished I still wasn't ready for a job, cause my drawing was nowhere near up to speed. Thats why I want to do animation. I'm not really interested in animating, but I see it as a drawing boot camp. If one year with bluestien can improve one's work then 3 years in animation should do wonders! You should be doing pretty well in DMA though, cause you had your one year of AFD to go in with.
How much longer do you have in DMA? Illustration sounds like a good idea. I fancy illustration as well. If you don't know where to go with it, maybe Bill Suddick would be a good person to talk to. He could probably tell you what to expect if you pursue an illustration career and how you would go about finding work. Speaking of Illustration, have you ever seen Gris Grimly's work? He's brilliant. He does Gothy illustrations for children's books. His watercolour work is breathtaking. Here... [link] ... check out the colour illustration gallery and the character gallery.
I looked at Thalia's sketchblog. For the life of me I don't know why she's having such problems getting in. It must have been Purcell. Theres no other reason. But Purcell is gone, so Thalia just has to get in this time. It'll be a complete injustice if she doesn't get in.
I'll definately post some of my portfolio stuff when I'm done.... if I'm ever done. I borrowed the last few Sandman books and I have to read them!!! MUST - COMPLETE - PORTFOLIO- AND READ- SANDMAN!! By the by what is that book that was under your chromaphile book?! You know, that book with all the baby endless.. is it an art book? A comic? I must know!
OOPS, sorry, then ended up being long. You don't have to pay much attention, I know its hard to respond to long posts...
