My entry for the Neverseenbefore-competition of TheLotRClub . "The little silver nut he [Sam] planted in the Party Field where the tree had once been; and he wondered what would come of it." (J.R.R. Tolkien, TRotK chapter 9)
Having planted the mallorn Sam's thoughts drift back to their journey - back to Galadriel in Lorien and back to his first encounter with the elves. Back to the simple gardener who was ordered by a wizzard to accompany his master. How far they had come...
