Very good! He is one of my favorite Frollos. Script by John Gay actually attempted to follow the plot and characters of the novel.

The Archdeacon isn't as evil as the disney movie paints him to be. Yes, he did stab Phoebus, and long for Esmeralda even though he was a priest. Remember what he did though, and that is: take pity on Quasimodo when those old ladies were talking about drowing him. Frollo is, well, not misunderstood, but rather, distorted. If that makes any sense.

yes, indeed. the disney's like their characters clean cut: good/ bad.
Frollo is a complex character. a life of isolation, inner pride and dealing with alchemy, made him very confident and lonely... but at one point, snap! he sees a girl dance and his whole universe collapses. he's very obsessive so he becomes mad about the girl. gelosy, want of revenge and lust make him act villainously.

Love this! You captured him really well (the face especially). Have to agree with you Sir Derek Jacobi did a fantastic Frollo, his portrayal was so real.

given a better script, though, both Sir D.J. and Sir. A. Hopkins would have been superb. too much focus on Esmeralda. i've never been terribly fond of Lesley-Anne Down, she was very pretty, yes! but, as the young Esmeralda, she was miscast!

Great pic here, instant fave!
Sir Derek is one of my fave Frollos also, along with Sir Cedric Hardwicke from the 1939 film.

I'm agree : Jacobi was a great Frollo, probably the best. ^^ I like the character in the Disney version too, but this movie is so far away from the book...

well, the DJ version, was pretty far away from the book too, only to mention the way frollo dies, the context that made frollo (d.j) stab phoebus, etc. the gorgeous 2 dj. & A.hopkins were the ones who made the movie good.
as for the disney fr., he's my fave, he made me like the character in the first place . pls chec my other frollo sketches.
thks for commenting, btw!

Yes, it's true for the Jacobi's version. I must see this movie again, it's so far away now...
I like the 1956 version with Anthony Quinn too. Did you see it ?

um, almost. my "problem" with Notre Dame d.p is that i need to like the frollo in order to like the movie, and the 1956 frollo doesn't look the way i was imagining, don't know. still, this version is the most faithful to the book, including the end.
i liked the 1939 version a lot.
if you wanna see several versions of HOND, you can find them on you tube, [link]
and, in case you haven't seen it already, there's a wonderful musical too : [link]
Have fun!
