let’s say it’s during the courtship, Thomas and Martha being pretty talented at horse back riding and deciding to have a picnic just the two of them for his birthday.

You should be proud of those horses--they look really good! (Hell, I'm in habit of looking for mistakes in drawings [since I try to train myself to pick mistakes out of my drawings and whatnot] and I couldn't find anything except the nostrils on the left horse being off-center, and usually I'm a complete nitpick)
