Description The Senshi of Love and the Little Things, Sailor Luna! This girl ony existed in the live action version of Sailor Moon, and to be honest I thought she was terrible. She was a little girl, while Luna was supposedly an adult, and her origin was never satisfactorily explained. It's pretty obvious to me they wanted a kid character in a continuity that lacked Chibiusa, but I think they handled it poorly. Besides, she looked pretty bad because the different hues and fabrics of her costume clashed. However, I wanted to give her an opportunity and try to make her pretty in my style, and in the process I grew fond of her.

In terms of lighting, I think this is my best work so far. I'm pretty sure I got an achievement for successfully coloring those boots with back light and reflected light. Same for those bangs of hers. I used a bit of blue there, because her wig is blue in the series, but I didn't want to go all the way because the original design doesn't have it, and I thought too many colors would kill the palette. I pondered for a while about whether I should give her brown or blue eyes. The actress who plays her has brown, and so does the anime version of Luna, but her cat plushie form in the series and the original design have blue eyes. I ended up with the latter option because I wanted the cat to be faithful to the series and it wouldn't have made sense to have both forms with different eyes.

The pose isn't the best thing ever. The torso is tilted. =/

That background nearly killed my arm, but I'm mostly happy with it. The bubbles weren't such a hot idea, however. Afterwards I visualized yellow stars in their place and it seems like a better idea. Why didn't I do that? But either way, that detail messes up the lighting. I didn't realize they'd look so bright and appear to be light sources. Oh well. I'll try to learn for next time.

All in all, I'm pretty happy with this drawing, and I learned a lot doing it. I hope you like it as well!

Sailor Luna is not Anime, not Manga and not Musical.

Amazing. I'm the biggest Sailor Moon fan, since I swapped to other anime's when I grew a little older. Still have my bed sheets of it though haah.
Anyway, this is absolutely amazing! I love your style so much, and it inspires me to draw. But maybe an older version of Luna instead xD.
In regards to her acting very young, I agree that makes no sense. They could've pulled something off like Rika from Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, where the main character is a child, however she acts much older because (insert story line here).Β

Thank you so much. That's one of the nicest things I've been told. ^_^ And, yeah! I think that would've been a good solution. They should have asked us, really.
I'm a fellow Sailor Moon fan from the olden times. XD I remember the first episode I ever saw was the one about the radio station that sent energy-sucking flowers to listeners. That was my first anime too. Ah, those were the times when we didn't know Usagi was the Princess and had a kid from the future.

Yep! I remember when I was really young I'd get super excited that it was on and get very close to the TV. Also my first anime too~ Ah. Now I'm totally going to draw something from Sailor Moon xD

Sailor Luna is a kid perhaps because though as a cat Luna is an adult(5 orΒ 7 yrs old) but as a human she reflects the human age not the feline age...so even though Luna the Cat is say 6yrs old in cat years that makes her 42yrs old give or take.(years oldΒ x 7 = cat age...I think) So when sheΒ turns human she is a kid to reflect the non feline multiplication.

Though then again I doubt the writers gave it that much thought...and just went with the design Naoko came up with herself.

Sailor Luna was based off a Naoko Takeuchi drawing --->www.wikimoon.org/images/pgsm/l…

Hm, physically it makes some sense, but she acts like a kid as well. I don't think mental age would change so much. Besides, the first human design for Luna was an adult (as seen in artbooks and the S season movie). I'm sure they had technical reasons for the change (kid appeal), but it doesn't fit smoothly with the canon in my opinion.
I used Naoko's design as reference. I was glad to see the tackiness was added by the costume makers and not the design itself. XD

So cute~ : D I never watched the live action because well the Luna as a plush part and how she looked as a person bothered me too much, but she is so precious as you drew her. : D

Β Β  But the actress has the chubbiest cheeks! D= Hehe, thank you so much for the compliment. ^_^

Β Β  The live action series is pretty hard to defend, but I actually honestly liked it... overall. I liked the personalities of the Senshi, their inner turmoil, like the rivalry between Venus and Mars, the former's reasons to keep her distance and the sense of inferiority and isolation that lead Ami to become Dark Mercury. Venus is NOTHING like the bubbly, airheaded Minako we know, and the conclusion of her arc is a punch in the gut. I also like Usagi's struggles toward the end, once Endymion is, once again, abducted by the Dark Kingdom. Unlike her anime self, she has to remain as stoic as she can or everybody dies, and it's heartbreaking to see. The Shitennou are also pretty complex: Jadeite is 100% faithful to Queen Beryl no matter what, but Nephrite is rebellious and confused. Zoicite is loyal to Endymion (since the Shitennou are originally his guardians) but doesn't have the strength to go against the whole Dark Kingdom, and Kunzite is an asshole with his own agenda. The Dark Kingdom and Prince Endymion have more intrincate clothes design, and I think they look really cool. Plus, catchy tunes.
Β Β  All in all, I think there is plenty of interesting material in this series, but to watch it you also need to have the capacity to stomach lots of bad acting, terrible humor (Usagi's mom and Motoki, please die), bad CGI, choreographed battles, tokusatsu monsters that are nowhere near as frightnening or even respectable as a good youma, plastic props that look like toys, Artemis's raging crush on Minako, tackiness, wigs, and Kuroki Mio. Aaaand I can't really expect most people to have that.

I mean she was pretty cute in her own way, but not who I'd have pegged for the role. : P And you are very welcome. : D

I really wanted to like it, I was really big into JDramas when it came out and it was Sailormoon! So I had been thrilled and did try to watch the first episode when it first was subbed, but man I could not do that.
I should at least read how the story went, I know a bit here and there from seeing what others have showed here and there, but if not for a lot of that bad stuff, you really have me wanting to watch it as I like how the story was a different take but still the same. : D

Hm, maybe someone will make a manga version? That would be neat.

I've never heard of Sailor Luna, and I'm not certain how I feel about her existence. But, I do like this drawing nonetheless.

Thank you! Haha, it's a difficult pill to swallow for most. I'm not even sure how I feel.
