Its pieces like these that inspire me to give Illustrator another shot...despite that impossible pentool.

Thanks! Once you get the hang of it (took me about two weeks, so I agree it's something you have to learn) you will really love the pentool. The lines are so clean!

I agree with what someone mentioned earlier in that there looks to be more attention on the head than in the rest of the body. An easy fix would be to remove the highlights from the lower half of the head. This would allow you to keep the form and allow for a little less focus drawn to that part.
That being said, you did an amazing job capturing the texture of the feathers! You can tell you spent a great deal of time on this piece.

I don't think it takes more time in Illustrator than Photoshop though.
I did use a tablet for all the feathers btw. With a mouse that would have been a lot of work

i like the colors chosen, the red stands out alot and the rest of the colors fall in very well. Maybe if you could added a lighter purple next to the red or somewhere to make the purple stand out a lil bit more..but its cool like these as well!!
