Description Tuffty Bitties, Quill Tuffty (c) NanoBanana
Bittybones AU (c) Fucken-Crybaby

=== HOW DO I ADOPT A TUFFTY? ===
You just decide to and do! They are totally and completely free for anyone to adopt, so no need to ask (I'll always say yes). You can adopt as many as you like, just make sure to take care of them. You can write about your Tuffty/Tuffties or draw them, change their clothes, give them accessories, etc. The types described here are like describing the differences between a German Shepard dog and a Great Dane dog. They're all Tuffties, just different "breeds", if you will.

If you adopt a Tuffty, please make sure to credit me for the creation of the species and type. Also, DO NOT adopt them just to kill or maim them (or let other Bitties and creatures kill or maim them). Also also, DO NOT declaw them, crop their ears, or dock their tails! That's just cruel.

=== TUFFTEMBER 2021 - DAY 12 ===
This type is based on the Old World porcupines (the Hystricidae family) but I've also borrowed a few aspects from the New World porcupines (the Erethizontidae family), so you can use species from either of these for coloration ideas. ^_^

Quill Tuffty
    Height / Tail Length: 11.0 - 20.8" (27.9 - 52.8 cm) / 1.0 - 10.4" (2.5 - 26.4 cm)
    Ear Types: Very small, small, medium-small
    Fur: They grow fur on their ears, tails, feet, and a tuft on their heads; their fur is unique in that the outer layer is made up of stiff, spiny quills with a short and soft undercoat beneath (the largest and longest quills usually grow from the top and backs of their skulls and the latter 3/4 of their tail); they also grow shorter and sharper quills along their tails (these are the ones to watch out for!); their coloration and markings reflect those found in nature (colorations may come from any existing species of porcupine within the Hystricidae and Erethizontidae families)
    Diet: Herbivore (generally)
    Favorite Food: Corn on the cob (but this is usually only a treat since corn can have quite a bit of sugar in it)
    General Opinion: Middling. Some find them cute while others don't tend to pay much attention to this type of Tuffty. Caution is usually exercised around these Tuffties since many people mistakenly believe that they can "shoot" the quills from their bodies at people. They can't, for the record. That's just plain silly.
    Traits: Gentle, sweet, protective of their family and home, they prefer to talk things out rather than resort to violence (but can handle themselves in a fight if it comes down to it), prefers to avoid conflict, generally quite content with life, they love with all their heart, devoted, will only ever form one mate-bond in their life (so they can be quite picky!), optimistic, curious and inquisitive, innocent (but not naive). introspective and thoughtful, prefers a simple life, humble, well-grounded, to show affection  they will nuzzle those they care for, nuzzling noses is reserved for mates and is considered somewhat intimate
    Notes: Moderately territorial towards other Quill Tuffties not from their burrow system or family. If threatened or if their territory is invaded, they will lift their quills to make themselves look bigger. If this threat is ignored, they'll shiver these quills, producing a rattlesnake-like hiss and stomp to add further emphasis. If this last warning goes unheeded, they will charge the intruder and aim to spike their target with the sharp quills on their tail. These quills have hook-like barbs along their undersides, making them extremely difficult and painful to remove. Quill Tuffties will only have one mate-bond in their lifetime and live underground in a network of burrows. They lovingly care for their young and encourage them to add onto the network of burrows once they're old enough. Some families of Quill Tuffties will connect their burrows for additional escape routes, but generally don't mingle too much. These Tuffties are usually nocturnal and venture out at night to forage for food or even to collect bones (which they gnaw on for calcium and to maintain their teeth). There have been some cases of people clipping the quills from these Tuffties to make them more "safe", but this is incredibly detrimental to the mental and emotional state of the Tuffty. They generally steer clear of urban areas and only venture into quiet neighborhoods devoid of much nightlife. Tuffty eyelights are round but can have "rings" inside or outside the main eyelight.
    Anatomical Notes: Quill Tuffties grow both long and short quills with a soft undercoat beneath. Both types of quills are hollow, but the longer ones are used for displays while the shorter, stiffer ones (found only on the tail) are used to deal actual damage when necessary. They have longer rodent-like buck-teeth. They can have spots or other markings on their bones that color-match to their fur color or markings.
    Breeding Notes: Litters born between Tuffties will blend traits between the parents. If breeding with another type of Bitty (like Plumies) and the Tuffty is the Carrier Parent, then all offspring will be a Tuffty. If the Tuffty is the Donor Parent, then all offspring will be the same type as the Carrier Parent (no hybrids!). Quill Tuffties can inherit colors and patterns from other Tuffty types but not other Bitty types (like Plumies).
