Description This is it. It's finally done. After about two weeks of work, my Metal Head Blood Reaper is complete! And now, time for one of my infamously long descriptions...

Imagine, if you will...

The hour is late as you lead your small recon squad to the location of a small MKG outpost. You mission is simple: infiltrate the outpost and find out anything you can as to what is happening at it. So far, you mission has gone off without a hitch. The bio-signal dampeners your squad is equipped with are doing their jobs efficiently; you have managed to evade detection by the MKG Deathbot's bio-scanners so far. After slipping past the initial security, your squad comes to a small cliff overlooking what appears to be some sort of storage area. You order your squad to begin gathering intel about the area: how much supplies are there, how well it is guarded, etc... As you monitor a pair of Deatbots conversing near a stack of crates, something diverts your attention. An unearthly shreik cuts through the quiet of the night. That sound can only mean one thing: Blood Reapers. Your blood runs cold. Almost instantly, as if on cue, several of the nightmarish creatures drop into the storage area from the surrounding cliffs and begin to tear into nearby Deathbots with their giant bladed arms. More Deathbots begin to pour into the area, but the Reapers cut them down as quickly as they appear. Realizing that this isn't the best place to be, you begin to order your small squad to retreat. But something stops you. Another shreik, this time from behind you, followed by the screams of several of your squadmates. Panicked, you spin around, looking for a target. But the last thing you see is blue lightning flickering in the night before a giant blade cuts through your skull...

And now, a little bit about the Blood Reapers themselves...

Metal Head Blood Reapers. The stuff of nightmares. One of the most mysterious and deadly Metal Head, they are feared by the humans and the MKG Deathbots alike. Like the Titan, Blood Reapers are the result of a breed of Metal Head that was mutated after being exposed to large amounts of Dark Eco radiation left in the air after Erol's Terraformer was destroyed. Unlike the Titan, the Blood Reaper's level of mutation is severely extreme. The Blood Reaper's physical body structure has been destroyed by it's exposure to Dark Eco, leaving only its armor plates, teeth, and claws behind. The creatures have their form now due to a sort of Dark Eco vapor that works its way between its remaining parts. In essence, the Blood Reapers have become sentient Dark Eco. Lightning dances around this vapor, holding the monster's shape. Despite not having a physical body structure, Blood Reapers are incredibly quick and agile, capable of moving and attacking at high speeds. Aside from eating away the creature's body, the Dark Eco that makes up a Blood Reaper has had other effects on it. Blood Reapers are physically blind, as their eyes were destroyed with the rest of their bodies. Interestingly enough, they still have the ability to hear, and they must feed, like all living things do, in order to survive. In absence of physical sight, Blood Reapers have an extra sense to make up for this loss. They are able to sense the Eco energies of all things around them, thus allowing them to "see" the world around them as various mixings of these energies. It is these energies that the Blood Reapers feed on. Whether their prey be another living creature or a machine, a Blood Reaper will drain it's target of all of its energies, leaving it either dead or broken beyond repair. Also of note is a Blood Reaper's Skull Gem, which is located in its chest instead of its head (as with most Metal Heads), and is pitch black. It is assumed that the gem being black is related to the Dark Eco that makes up the creature's body. In the dark, a Blood Reaper is effectively invisible, save for the blue lightning that dances around it.

Blood Reapers are fearsome foes in combat. Armed with two large blades on the ends of their arms and a smaller blade at the end of their tail, these creatures will hack and slash at opponents with incredible speed. Their blades can cut through most known substances. Since they lack a physical body to damage, solid munitions and explosive weapons have no effect against them. In order to damage a Blood Reaper, energy weapons must be used. Hits on any of its metal parts will simply be diffused and rendered harmless. If energy weapon fire strikes any part of a Blood Reaper that isn't covered, it's Dark Eco will absorb the Eco from the energy bolt into itself. When a Blood Reaper absorbs too much energy, or takes too much "damage", via this method, it's body overloads and fails. The lightning holding it together will vanish, the Dark Eco composing the creature will dissipate, and it's metal parts will drop harmlessly where it last stood.

The first Blood Reapers were encountered by a force of Freedom League soldiers in a skirmish with a group of Metal Heads. As the Freedom League troops began to gain the upper hand in the fight, several Blood Reapers appeared and began to slaughter the human soldiers. These Reapers were defeated, but not before drastically injuring the Freedom League numbers to a point where they wouldn't have won the battle if they hadn't called for air support. When the surviving soldiers returned, their stories of the nightmare killers spread throughout the League, and eventually into the populace of Haven and Spagus Cities. Since then, parents have often used stories of Blood Reapers to frighten misbehaving children into cleaning up their acts.

Woo, that's over... But hey, I like giving this kind of background info for the stuff I make up. I can only hope you people enjoy it.

Now, about the drawing itself...

I've been working on this thing for the better part of the past two weeks, probably. I blame school. Anyways, I came up with the idea for the Blood Reaper in a rather interesting way... I was watching an episode of Mythbusters one night that was devoted to myths involving dogs. One of the myths the guys were testing was various ways to try to shake a blood hound off your trail. Try as they might, they couldn't ultimately loose the dog. Wow, I thought, It's almost as if those things can smell you by your blood... And then my brain jumped to something like What if there was a Metal Head that could sense you like that...? And thus, the Blood Reaper was born. Similar to a blood hound, the Reaper can sense your life energies, and there's no stopping one from coming after you.

Artistically, this has been one hell of a piece for me. I got the general idea of what I wanted it to look like down pretty quickly, but then I came to the head. For whatever reason, this thing's head had me stumped for a while. So I did some concept work and finally came up with something that I thought fit it well (you can see this concept work in my scraps). The next major hurdle was drawing the lightning on it. Oh man... I think it was worth it in the end, but I'll be damned if I ever draw this much lightning on a Blood Reaper again! It didn't start out being a real chore... until I realized that I had to draw lightning behind it, since it's body is somewhat see-through... Everything was fine again until the coloring came along. Those metal plates and blades? They took forever to do. Putting down grey and then silver... I need new grey and silver pencils! This thing was murder on them. Next up (and last of all) was the "body", for which I used black (but not as thick as usual) covered by a navy blue. Yeah... Dark Eco gas... I also gave it a skull to stand on to give a sense of how big one of these things is. The last Metal Head I did, the Titan, was bigger than a two-story building. A Blood Reaper is much smaller; only a little taller than an average human. But it's still just as deadly.

But I am very pleased with the results. This is probably the single most detailed thing that I have ever put on a piece of 8&1/2 x 11 piece of paper. I can guarantee you that these things will be appearing in future installments of my War is Hell fanfic series. Anyways, I'm done thinking about Blood Reapers for now. I hope that you all like this, especially those of you who have been waiting so patiently to see the finished result over the past week or so. As always, comments are greatly appreciated here.

Here's some pics of the developmental stages of this thing.

Initially it was, but later on I took the concept behind it and worked it into something else.

Oooooohhh..... VERY nice!! I love the effect of the back-lightning. And the black gem in the chest is great. Nice job on the coloring, the contrast between the solid metal plates and vaporous insides is awesome. Great idea putting that skull there, it adds a nice touch And I like the long description, that must've taken you awhile to write Great job!

Anyways, glad you like it.

a.) too shy
b.) too pushy

Odd combo but yeah.

Glad you like how the lightning turned out, and just the entire thing in general. I'm not sure when I'll next draw one of these, but you'll probably "see" them show up in my story sooner.

Thanks a ton for the fave!
