Description 11" x 15"
charcoal, pastel, and lots of other stuff in an attempt to combine materials on Arches Cover Buff

source from a statue of Marcus Tullius Cicero

This was an experiment to try and figure out how to combine gouache and charcoal and create layers that I can work and work over. The answer: You can't... this piece took 10x longer than it should have because the materials don't work together.

Ironically I really like the result, but I could never reproduce the look because I have no idea what I was doing or what I did and it was pain anyways

You should try draw the busts as fleshy, live people.

your gallery is interesting, but this sheet I love the most. Whatever you did to it, it was right, it is more unusual than the others.

Id' love that too !

Anyway, you said that the piece took 10x the usual time. But how much time does it normally take to finish such a piece?

>This was an experiment to try . .

I've wanted to try that too :/ What about developing the sketch first, then layering gray scale gouche?

Love your work.
