Socially Awkward - "I... um... well... thank you?"
Cody hasn't really been around others all that much. Raised alone by his mother who was mentally impaired, he didn't see many of his own kind. She did her best to teach him the basics of life as well as vocabulary and manners, but he never got a chance to truly practice his social skills, and so they are quite lacking. He knows the basic manners as well as other "rules of society" but knowing is not the same as practicing, or even understanding. It isn't uncommon for him to stutter for the proper reply or reaction to specific situations. He can get very nervous and tense when trying to socialize with others. Half the time he just gets frustrated and storms off. He has tried interacting a few times before, but has never succeeded, and the more he tries the less he really wants anything to do with anyone anyways. He'd rather be alone than suffer the stress of trying to fit in.
Discreet - "I'm staying out of this."
Cody isn't all that well-known and he likes it that way. He doesn't like attracting attention on himself. He is more of the type to stand out of the way where he will not be noticed. When drawn into a group or a conversation he can get very tense and nervous, often resorting to completely withdrawing in his own little mental cave. At that point he hardly seems to even know what is going on around him. He is not one to speak up, but on the contrary he usually speaks very quietly. His lower voice tends to carry well without much effort, and just being aware of this can make him self-conscious, afraid he will draw attention to himself when he talks. Therefore, it isn't uncommon for Cody to quite literally whisper when in conversation, especially when there is a large group around.
Reticent and Reserved - "I'd rather not talk about it... in fact, why don't we not talk at all."
Having lived on his own most of his life, Cody isn't really one to talk very much. He would much rather keep to himself. He is perfectly fine with standing alone, away from others, and doesn't mind entertaining himself. Being alone for him is far less frightening than trying to interact with others. Just because he would rather be on his own though, does not mean you can't draw him into a small conversation if you are kind enough and patient enough to get past his awkwardness. He will not run away when someone approaches him and he certainly won't chase someone off for trying to talk to him. You just won't see him approaching anyone and striking up conversation. As far as he sees it, he'll only socialize if he has to.
However, if you try to ask about him, he will either shut you out or possibly even chase you away rudely. He hates to talk about himself at all and refuses to give any information about himself but for his name (and there are days he just doesn't want to give that either). Even if he is asked such a simple question as what is his favorite color, he will completely stop talking and usually request you leave him be. Getting him back into a conversation after that, even when not about him in any way, is quite the chalane. He is extremely defensive about himself and seems to think he needs to defend who he is from the rest of the world, as if he was afraid if someone knew anything about him, they could use it against him.
Antisocial - "Why should I care? Why do you even care?"
Sometimes he comes across as heartless, and that could be one way to describe him. It's not that he has anything against anyone, he just doesn't exactly have anything for them. Simply stated, he doesn't care. He is indifferent to the state of others around him, especially emotionally. He lacks sympathy and will rarely reach out to help someone when they are feeling down. Now if it is someone were in a life-threatening danger there is more of a chance of him lending a hand, but even so he isn't going to risk his life for someone else. The world that he was raised in was one in which everyone had to look out for themselves first, and that everyone was responsible for their own fate. As far as he sees it, if someone else can get themselves in trouble, they can get themselves out as well. This belief is also a great factor in his tendency to withdraw information about himself, especially emotionally. At times he has been known to even be hostile toward those who come to him complaining. He doesn't want to hear about anyone else's problems, an you can be sure he won't share his. He gets very annoyed by those who are constantly complaining and seeking the shoulder of someone else to lean on.
Short-Tempered - "Oh you're dead now!"
While Cody is often very quiet and almost lax, as if he doesn't have a care in the world, it isn't hard to push his buttons, and he reacts quickly when you do. He takes any insult, even one said in fun, to a very deep, inward offense and will immediately either try to defend his place and prove that such an insult does not pertain to him, or just outright attack and try to tear whoever it was who insulted him to pieces. In most cases it is the latter that he goes with, especially when it was a stallion who insulted him. You have to watch what you say around him, as you never really know what will pull his trigger. When he has been upset though, it's a good idea to run.
Intelligent - "It really isn't all that complicated."
Impressively enough, despite his upbringing, Cody is a very intelligent individual. He may not know all the facts of the world, but he has a very logical way of thinking and is very curious. He is constantly asking questions and then setting out to find the answers. Because of this, he actually has quite a bit of common knowledge. He is also great with math and science sorts of things, as result to his logical thinking. He can solve just about any puzzle set before him if given enough time. He loves a challenge too, so when faced with a new puzzle he will literally drop everything he is doing in order to figure it out. Sure you won't hear him telling stories about the history of the world or other "unimportant" topics (as he likes to call them) such as social studies and really anything that has to do with other individuals. However, he does know the science of others, just not the emotional and social parts behind that.
Self-Aware - "I know my own limits."
He may be a bit socially awkward, quick-tempered, antisocial, and reserved, but the one good thing he has gotten out of this is that he knows himself. Cody is fully aware of his physical as well as emotional capabilities. He knows what he can and cannot do. He knows what will push him some, and he knows what will challenge him. When asked to consider what he would do in a certain situation he can confidently answer knowing exactly what he would do. The main disadvantage to this though is that when he grows and changes some, he can become very insecure. He is among the few things he knows well, and so when he feels himself changing, even a little, it can bring him near panic, making him afraid to go any farther, even if he was changing for the better.
History: In short, Cody was born to a mentally ill mare who lived on her own for this very reason. The colt was perfectly healthy, mentally and physically though, but he never got a chance to truly prove that to anyone as they lived alone. His mother was not completely helpless thankfully though, and was able to care for herself and her foal. She protected him and fed him while he was young, teaching him the basics of life. Cody never really got a chance to meet anyone else though as his mother was quite literally terrified of strangers, so they always ran when they saw someone else, whether they were a friendly face or not.
Cody was almost four years old when his mother grew very ill of an unknown sickness and died suddenly one day. Left all on his own in this great big world, Cody had to take care of himself. He was very good at fending for himself though and getting out of trouble. Slowly he learned that others are not someone to be feared, as his mother so strongly believed, and so he allowed others into his life. He never truly got close to anyone though, and wouldn't let them close to him. There is a slight fear in the back of his mind that has been drilled into him by his mother's panicked reactions every time she saw someone. Because of this he is hesitant to actually get to know anyone, though he won't run away from them.
He lives on his own now, as he has all his life, only running into a few others now and then. Sometimes he will allow the company of a temporary companion and travel with them for a while, though he isn't the greatest company and so often they end up leaving him. It seems that even when he tried to make an acquaintance at the least, he ends up alone again, mostly because of his socially awkwardness. Because of this he's grown over time not to even care and so he doesn't even try to make friends or acquaintances.
The lines belong to Fargonon , I just did slight editing. The Head shot is also Fargo's, I was too lazy to make my own so traced one of the head shots from the import sheets. The breed (of course) belongs to Fargo too.
In other words, nothing here belongs to me but the design (which I'm very proud of)
