Description Hello everyone. I know i've said a long time ago that i would be doing some tutorials on the process behind how i create my environment paintings. Well it's been long overdue, but here is the first of many to come. This tutorial was done for my latest piece Forest Dream. I've summarized most of the steps that i do and if you have any questions, feel free to ask away. If you are interested, there is a recorded video of me painting this on my livestream channel, so do check it out. Hope this tutorial will help some of the aspiring artist out there that are having trouble painting environments.

Thank you very much for this tutorial! You inspired me to kind of wanting to paint forest! When I tried to paint a forest background yesterday, well it was my first time painting, and the result I got was not good. So, I decided to search for some tutorial regarding how to paint forest background, and I found this. I will definitely try painting a forest in the near future using your tutorial!

PS: I'm a Singaporean too! Nice to meet you!

this is cool! I have a question (didn't see this asked before):

Did you get your idea of the forest from reference (real life or photographs)? Or was this from your imagination?Β

Thank you very much. This was painted all from my imagination. No reference was used

Wow this is soooo super useful! Thanks so much! I sometimes don't know how concept artists manage all the shading and the colors at the same time. I really like your greyscale first technique and I'll try it out in my next pieces. Wahhh you're super talented!

whao good!...well, probably need to know how to do the grey block first...not even able to draw T.T

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Narandel In reply to Jukobaelet [2013-09-12 13:48:19 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much. Just pick a basic round brush and set your brush opacity to around 70 to 80% and start painting away. If you're having problems painting the things you want, then its probably time to start doing some drawing and sketch studies.
