For his whole life, whenever people thought of him, people thought of snow. The cold winter that both protected him and trapped him had always made him isolated to the rest of the world. So when a new, young nation who was also cursed by the plight of winter, Ivan Braginski, also known as Russia, felt a bit of comfort. Sure, this new nations wasn't one he knew. He only had heard rumors that France had discovered and taken in this new nation as a colony. Yet he knew that even with some slight affection from the French nation, the child would still feel alone. And yet, as the years went by, Ivan had never spoke to him. In fact, until the two of them became allies against Germany in World War Ⅱ, Ivan never had a chance or a reason to talk to him. This nation, Canada, was just another ally in taking down an enemy. Finally, using the alliance Ivan thought it was time he finally met the other nations trapped in snow.

When he arrived in the new land, Ivan was surprised to see that it wasn't as bad as he imagined. Then again, this nation stretched over many kilometers, so the city he was in was just a small fraction of the land. There was snow, no surprise to him, but not too much. It was just enough to give most other nations the feeling it was in the middle of winter. For him it was nothing to when General Winter would come to take control of the land. Yet this weather wasn't what he was here for. Ivan quickly took a cab to where he had heard Canada lived, only to find out that the nation was out in the snow. He understood and went out to find him in the back of the house where a field of the white powder laid. Back home, he too would go out into the snow just to be alone and attempt to picture the day he would be in a field with sunflowers instead of snow. He did it to fill the emptiness in his own cold heart. So in his mind, it only made sense that that's what Canada would be doing as well.

As he walked into the deep snowy fields he stopped the second he saw the figure of another nation. He was surprised to see the nation with an animal as well. A huge polar bear was curled up beside him. They were both lying in the snow staring up at the sky. Russia could hear laughter as the looked up. This other nation's voice was soft and gentle like the falling snow. He hadn't ever heard a voice like that. When both the bear and the nation stood, Russia took the opportunity to admire Canada's slender figure. When he turned he finally got a chance to see his face. Though he knew they were brothers, it still amazed Russia to see a face almost identical to America's. The biggest difference he noticed was the eyes. Unlike America's bright blue eyes on this nation, his eyes were a soft violet color. Canada finally noticed his presence and stared at Russia for a minute before smiling.

"Oh Russia! It's nice to see you here. Not many people come to visit me." Canada said in his soft mellow voice. A pang of pity filled Russia's heart. He heard the hidden message that screamed, "I'm lonely. Help me." The cry was so familiar to Russia and yet it still hurt coming from this boy's mouth. Boy, he was only a child in comparison to himself. He heard the other nation calling to him as he approached. Something about if he was ok. He didn't respond. He was still mesmerized by what he saw and heard. This child from a land of ice and snow. A child who lives in a world just like his own. It suddenly registered that this child was standing right before him. Shaking him gently and calling out his name. It wasn't right. He could hear the anxiety and sadness rise with each time he called out. No. They weren't alike. Russia was strong. He had to be with all the suffering his history held. There was still hope for this nation though. All he would need is acknowledgement and he would be saved. He wouldn't end up in the same misery he himself was in. That was all the logic he needed to pull Canada into a soft, but passionate kiss.

Canada froze for a second, the tried to squirm and push away. Russia wouldn't let him. They stayed like that until finally, Canada kissed back. Only then did Russia realize the other arctic nation.

"W-What was that? Russia what's going on?" Canada asked while trying to hide the rising blush on his cheeks.

"It's ok. You're not alone anymore. You will never be alone again. I won't let you be alone again." Russia promised. Realization seemed to appear behind Canada's gaze. Russia smiled as he realized he had been right all along. The child was alone here. All he had asked was the same thing Russia always wanted. Companionship, friendship, more if it was possible but as long as he knew someone was with him it would be enough. Canada had felt this too. So hearing the words that Russia had said immediately made tears rush to his eyes. Russia just held him close as snow still feel around them. They had always been alone in the winter. But now, it looked like spring might finally come to both of them.
