I've never been to Wisconsin, I'd sure like to see something like this if I ever visited there C:
That barn is such a beautiful red contrasted with the snow, why anyone would want to get rid of this scenery to put a bunch of cloned houses there, I'll never know :C

The contrast here is wonderful! if this scene were in a forest, you would be in my home state of pennsylvania...and as such it makes me strangely nostalgic... Great job!

Yes it's true. Norway, Finland, very many French descendants in the northern part, andΒ many many Germans, especially farther south. There is even a tiny settlement in N. Minnesota (the next state to the west from here) called "Finland". I visited there once, many very tall pines and birch, almost no people. I am in a part of Wisconsin where many of these barns (and some round ones as well) are still common.

Rural Wisconsin is still out there, but you must look harder to find it. Growing up in Illinois, I never appreciated scenes like this. Now that I'm older, it brings a warmth to my soul.
My Wisconsin barn picture is a little different. Perhaps the structure was once red, but years of harsh summers and even harsher winters have stripped the paint from this building and allowed it to blend into the landscape a little more.

(Ironically enough, if I were to have snapped the photograph in the opposite direction, you would have seen a new remodeled home that fits in exactly with your comments about encroaching subburbia.)

So pristine and perfect! Like a Timberlake painting! In early summer, this would be so right on with a field of corn... Great image. Happy New Year Nate!

Nice one Nate! I have a soft spot for a country barn too...one that really looks used rather than a rich mansion horse barn. The red does go so well with the snow.

So awesome,I agree I think being from Wisconsin hold a country theme in our mind of some kind. I'm still in Wisconsin and it is very few and far between that you see that Red barn....or for that matter ANY barns. Great work!!

I saw so many, in my youth, as well. Heading down to Kentucky to visit the Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, etc, we saw hundreds. It seemed like they were pretty much even in numbers between the pure red barns, and those with Mail Pouch Chewing Tobacco and "See Rock City" ads painted on them. Tie that all up with "Burma Shave" signs, and you have pure Americana.
