Description I get questions all the time about what kind of equipment I use. This isn't quite all my gear but what consider my essentials to always have on any trip. (minus my Canon 5d body and Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM lens that I used to take this)

Canon EF 300mm f/2.8L IS USM

Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM

Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM

Canon EF 14mm f/2.8L USM

Canon EF 15mm f/2.8 Fisheye

Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II

Manfrotto Mag Fiber Tripod

Manfrotto 680 Monopod

2 Canon 580 Ex Speedlites

Canon Cable Shutter Release

Singh-Ray ND-3G-SS

Singh-Ray ND-2G-SS

Singh-Ray ND-3G-HS

Singh-Ray ND-2G-HS

Cokin "P" Filter Holder

The only thing i really need is a bigger telephoto. the 300 on a full frame sensor doesn't give you as much reach as youd think. I'll be getting a bigger one once i can save up a small fortune.

Why don't you use a teleconverter? Because the f2.8 will be f4?
Nice collection btw.

I wish I had the money to splurge on such marvelous equipment. IS is a luxury I would kill to have! Perhaps one day . . .

By the way, when it comes to lenses (mainly for wildlife photography), do you prefer using fixed or telephoto?

Z-
I'm new to Deviant. I would like to know how you get the copyright to appear on your shots? I would like to do the same before I load any.
And the details about the shot (file size & all), how do you add that?
I hope you don't mind me picking your brain on this. Thanks!!

How do you use your p holder?

Very nice gear, sir.

I am a proud owner of the EF f/2.8 70-200mm L (without IS), and I simply love that lens. So in your opinion, is the IS noticable on yours? I mean, at first I thought about getting the IS version, but I didn't think shelling out another USD 400 or so for it is just too pricey.

Also, I am about to get the EF f/4 17-40mm L within the next couple weeks. It has been a long time coming, and I've been wanting to get it for over a year. I've been stuck with the terrible EF-S f/4-5.6 IS 17-85mm for the longest time...

Now I am just hoping Canon would eventually release a new full frame body (the rumored 5D MkII or 7D) this summer.

hey, you have exactly the same line up as me !

70-200 2.8 L
17-40 f4L
24-105 f4L

50D here with a 5D mark II on order

Azyiu In reply to Kajua [2008-10-31 02:59:19 +0000 UTC]

Nice... sadly at this moment I just don't have the cash for the 5D Mk-II, and I don't want to use my card for it, you know? So maybe I will wait a little while (usually prices drop after a few months) before I buy it. One thing is for sure, the 5D Mk-II is a such buy for me, and I will own it sooner or later! Ha!

Thanks, and I am so looking forward in getting it (too busy to head down to the shop these days).

I should've gotten it 3 years ago, but I didn't know any better back then (was still pretty new to photography at that time); and I ended up getting that crappy EF-S... oh well... Live and learn, I guess...

Iamidaho [2008-04-07 17:13:12 +0000 UTC]

nice kit man. Why dont you get a 1.4 tele extender? thats a cheap way to get a little extra reach and I hardly notice any image degradation when using it with my 200 1.8L (280mm at 2.5 is niiiiccce )

RemiGarciaPhoto [2008-04-01 21:28:54 +0000 UTC]

i agree that image qualit is quite horrible while using a 2x (or x1.4) extender...
But is the 300mm long enough for wild animals shooting ? didn't you think about a bigger focal ?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Nate-Zeman In reply to RemiGarciaPhoto [2008-04-02 04:40:17 +0000 UTC]

yeah of course it thought about it, but i only have so much money.. takes a while to get everything i need and im not quite there yet. the 300 works for most wild animal shots usually with birds though i could use some more

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RemiGarciaPhoto In reply to Nate-Zeman [2008-04-22 07:45:56 +0000 UTC]

same here...
Due to heavy prices of supertele lenses, i use 300mm f2.8 and sometimes a 1.4x converter...
Maybe someday i'll save some money for the 500 AFS... maybe

300/2.8 handheld eh? that's what i'm planning... i'll have it when i get my tax return late july

then i'll have no excuse not to get out and shoot...

do u leave the tripod collar on it when u handhold the 300? i find it makes it easier to handhold my 70-200/2.8 with it on..

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Nate-Zeman In reply to Jer-Trow [2008-03-31 17:40:39 +0000 UTC]

yeah i pretty much always leave it on. also it gives you a handle when youre carrying it around. good luck on getting one!

Nate-Zeman In reply to JakeSpain [2008-03-31 17:41:10 +0000 UTC]

i had one for about a week. had to get rid of it because the image quality was terrible. atleast for me but im a bit picky

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JakeSpain In reply to Nate-Zeman [2008-03-31 19:20:59 +0000 UTC]

I'm surprised. I have seen many exceptional images taken with 1 or even 2 extenders added. Most of the pro wildlife photographers think nothing of using them with fast glass.........

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Nate-Zeman In reply to JakeSpain [2008-03-31 19:24:48 +0000 UTC]

yeah most of the time you'll see them using the 1.4x it has much less quality loss than the 2x does. i plan on getting one of those soon
