Buddy, I've been using this picture as wallpaper for some time. It is just awesome. By far the best rendering from this "beast" I've ever seen.
I started working on a wallpaper using this image and the other one, and would like to sent it to you through e-mail before uploading to Deviant - if that's ok.

Hey man, yep the front looks plain, but thats how the original design is, which i kinda prefer, to many mech's/robots these days have stuff planted all over them with no meaning or sense which i try and avoid, the older sci-fi stuff works best for me, large plain areas, leaving other concentrated areas of detail where it needs it and makes sense.
The top/head material was pretty straight forward, i took a carbon fibre texture and reduced the whites in it to start and tiled this over the whole object, dublicated this and made a blend shader, the second shader ( the overlay ) was exactly the same but had more dirt and noise, then applied a mask to this on another uv channel to mask it out in areas, both layers has some slight displacement added also to give it that lumpy more depth feel ( using the original carbon fibre texture ), specular/reflections was simply a fresnel falloff set quite high but which glossy reflections enabled to give it more of a shiney matte feel (rubber ), hope this helps, thats the workflow for max anyways, i know maya would be very similar to this, but a layered shader would have to be set up, then linking up together using uv-centric stuff and so on.

Awesome ! I am not as sure about the guns as are the other commenters... my concern would rather be about the wires. They look very clean, compared to the rest of the mech.
