Description The night had come and Sam lay on one of many rooftops in Canora City.
As many other nights before, his mind tormented him with his parent's murder.
But this time he didn't pay as much attention to it, he just stared into the sky and wondered... wondered if Lia was unharmed.
It had only been two days or so since her abduction... but he missed her so much that he just couldn't bear it.
He closed his eyes and let his mind wander... he let it wander through all the memories he shared with Lia.
How happy she was no matter what happened, the way she got him to laugh when he felt down and how she always managed to calm him down and soothe him when he got angry or mad.
But most importantly all the beautiful places they visited together. Sam was so sad she couldn't make it to Canora City... if only he had been faster, then maybe... just maybe she could be lying next to him on this very rooftop, counting the stars or making funny faces at the moon.
Yeah... she loved doing that, just stare at the moon and make fun of it... she said it looked like some funny looking fat guy that did nothing but stare down on Mobius all night. Yup... that was Lia all right... always able to turn something bad, gloomy or majestic into something ridicoulus.

Suddenly his thoughts were interrupted by a loud noise.

"The alarm!" He gasped as he jumped to his feet and looked towards the horizon west of the city.

"THE ENEMY'S HERE!" a soldier yelled in the streets.

"WHAT!? ALREADY!?" another yelled back.

Sam leapt down from the building and headed for the west gate, where all the freedom fighters were gathering.
Connor was already there, planning the defenses, and so was Synther, preparing his men for the fight that was to come.

"What's going on?" He asked Synther upon arriving.

"Our scouts have spotted the enemy just outside the gate!" Synther answered. "And this time it's not some small recon force!"

"You should get to the armory and gear up!" he continued. "We don't have much time, they'll be here any mintute!"

Sam nodded and took off to the armory.

In the meantime, Connor was revealing his plain to the soldiers.

"All right men, this is it. The final battle!" he said. "The enemy outnumber us greatly so we must not engage them outside the walls!
Station yourselves on the walls and rooftops and make sure you've got plenty of ammunition with you! We can't be waisting time on moving back and forth to resupply ourselves!
And by all means, DON'T, I repeat, DON'T shoot without being sure to hit! Take your time and aim before shooting! We must save our ammo supply as much as possible!"

By this time, Sam returned from the armory, equipped with an assault rifle, a heavy pistol and an army knife.
He returned to Synther who had stationed himself and the team on the wall above the gate.

"I see you've got yourself some firepower." Synther grinned when Sam appeared at his side. "Good, you're gonna need it."

"Lets just say I'm not planning on going down." Sam grinned back.

Every freedom fighter was now stationed and ready. Connor stood on a rooftop near the gate and looked across his men stationed on the wall as well as observing the area outside them.

Few minutes passed and nothing happened except the occasional clanging of metal as the robots outside moved from time to time.
The soldiers started growing nervous and wondered why the enemy hadn't made a move yet. It was like they were preparing something... something big!
Then... all off a sudden, a loud bang could be heard and smoke rose from the trees. Seconds later, the freedom fighters could see a large object falling towards them from the sky at a great speed.

"TAKE COVER!!!" a soldier shouted just before the object hit a house near Connor's position.

The building was instantly crushed and the soldiers could hear the screams of freedom fighters positioned on top of it as they plummeted to the ground and to their deaths.

"WHAT ON MOBIUS WAS THAT!?" someone shouted.

"GET OFF THE ROOFTOPS! NOW!!" Connor yelled as he hurried down from his station.

Another bang was heard and like before, another building was hit and destroyed instantly and the soldiers on top of it fell to their deaths as well.

"HOW ARE WE SUPPOSED TO FIGHT LIKE THIS!?" Synther called to Connor. "IT'S TOO DARK TO SEE THE ENEMY WHEN THEIR POSITIONED SO FAR AWAY AND ON TOP OF THAT THEY'VE GOT THIS... DOOM MACHINE!!"

"IT LOOKS LIKE WE HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO GO OUTSIDE AND FACE THEM THERE!" Connor called back. "OPEN THE GATE!"

The gate is opened and Connor along with Synther, Sam, the Alpha team and few other freedom fighter go outside to face the enemy.
The rest of the soldiers are left in the city to provide cover if the others are forced to fall back.

"We have a plan for this move, commander?" Synther asks.

"No..." is Connor's answer. "Just fight... and stay alive!"

The small group moves through the forest towards the enemy's location... little do they know that they're being watched.

"What was that?" Sam suddenly said.

"What was what?" Connor asked him.

"I thought I heard something..." Sam answered. "behind us..."

"It was probably nothing, Sam" was Connor's respond.

But Connor was wrong to question Sam's sensitive ears... 'cause only few seconds later, a gunshot diverts their attention and one freedom fighter collapses to the ground.

"AMBUSH!!" Synther shouts.

The freedom fighters turned to every direction but couldn't spot the dark-colored robots through the woods and the night.
More shots took down more freedom fighters but the rest were now able to spot the flash from the guns as the shots were fired.
The group fired back at the robots that had them completely surrounded.

"Bring it on, stupid robots!" Synther shouted amongst the chaos.

More and more members of the group were shot down with every passing second.

"SPREAD OUT!" Connor yelled.

The group scattered and the fight turned from 'all for one' to 'every man for himself'.

Sam, now seperated from the group, was having little trouble spotting and destroying one robot after another. Here he was on his homeground... here he was a master... a king. Being a tiger giving him advantage on the fields of seeing and hearing. His eyes could easily see through the night and his ears could hear practically anything. He was also an expert at sneaking up on his targets, his feet not making the slightest sound as he snuck through the bushes. Yes... here he was almost invincible.

As he blasted every robot he spotted with his rifle he noticed suddenly that he was low on ammo.

"Blast it!" he cursed. "Only one clip for the pistol left! Have I killed that many robots already??"

He finished the ammo for the rifle on few more kills, then he reached for his pistol and kept up his robot-killing-frenzy until he had finished the pistol's ammo as well.
But no matter how many he killed, he always spotted more.

"These robots are endless!" he thought to himself. "There's no point in staying here any longer, better head back."

Sam ran towards the city gates as fast he could, not paying any attention to the robots behind him.
Finally he reached the gate but it didn't open.

"HEY! OPEN THE GATE!" he yelled towards the top of the walls but the gate stayed shut. "What are they doing in there?!?" he said to himself.

Few robots were now gaining up on him so he had to stop thinking about the gate and keep his mind on survival.
He drew his knife and charged towards the first robot, when he was close enough he stabbed the knife into it but it's metal plating didn't recieve much damage. After this unsuccesful attempt, the robot raised it's fist and gave Sam a heavy blow to the face and he fell to the ground.

"Tough guy, huh?" he said when he was back on his feet. "Then let's see how you like this!"

And with incredible force, he punched the robot's head so hard that it flew off.
He then turned to the remaining robots, three total, and charged towards them.
The lead bot didn't stand a chance as Sam smashed his fist into it's middle section and ripped out it's circuits. He then rammed the next robot to the ground, grabbed a rock and used it to crush the bot's chest. And finally, he threw the rock at the last robot's neck area, taking it's head off.

Now his attention turned back towards the gate. It still hadn't opened. Suddenly he started trembling. He looked down on his fists and saw they were bleeding pretty badly after being smashed into the bots' metal plating, it was causing him to loose strength.
If the gate didn't open soon he'd have to get out of the area and find something to stop the bleeding.

"CAN ANYONE HEAR ME?! OPEN THE GATE!" he called once more but the gate didn't open this time either.

Suddenly he heard a sound coming from behind him.

"Who's there?" he called into the woods.

A figure appeared in the woods. He couldn't make out who it was but it was definetly not a robot, the figure was too short and it was limping.

"Sam, help me..." the figure said.

Sam recognized the voice instantly, it was Synther!
He was in very bad shape and was having trouble breathing
Sam ran towards him, took his right arm and placed it over his shoulder to support him.

"Thank Mobius I found someone..." Synther sighed. "It was horrible... those darn robots were everywhere... I went with Connor when we seperated but I lost him when another ambush party attacked us... I barely managed to get away... you're the first one I've seen since then..." he paused to catch his breath. "Why are you still out here anyway?" he then asked.

"I came here just a few minutes ago..." Sam answered. "It seems there's no one in the city... I've been calling to them and tell them to open the gate... but so far, nothing..."

"What!?" Synther said. "How can that be!?"

"That doesn't matter now!" Sam answered. "We've got to get out of here and fast!"

"Yes, but where can we go?" Synther asked.

"We should head south." was Sam's answer. "I've heard of lands there that have never been conquered by Robotnik."

"All right then..." Synther said.

And so they made their way out of the forest and away from Canor city, Sam supporting Synther all the way.
