Description Assalaamu alaikum [peace be to you],

Again, in this occasion of the birthday of the last prophet of Islam, I'd like to talk more about this great man.

First part:

What Did Mohammed teach?

Consider the following:

The prophet Mohammed -peace be upon him- taught that all innocent life was sacred and as such none could be harmed, except those who were engaged against them in active combat. Saving one life was as if one had saved the entire world, while taking an innocent life was as if one had taken the lives of the entire world.

The Prophet Mohammed -peace be upon him- claimed every person who is born is born in a state of ISLAM (submission to the God on His Terms in Peace), as a Muslim ("one who does ISLAM" i.e.; submits to God's Will and obeys His Commandments). He further stated, God has created each person in the image that is His according to His plan, and their spirit is His. Then as they grow older they begin to distort their faith according to the influence of the prevailing society and their own prejudices.

Mohammed -peace be upon him- taught his followers to believe in the God of Adam, Noah, Abraham, Jacob, Moses, David, Solomon and Jesus... peace be upon them all, and to believe in them as true prophets, messengers and servants of Almighty Allah. He insisted on ranking all the prophets up at the highest level without any distinction between them, and ordered his followers to say the words, "peace be upon him" after mentioning their names.

He prophesied, predicted and foretold of events to come and they happened just as he had said they would. He mentioned so many things that people of his time could not have known, yet we have seen the evidences manifest over and over throughout the centuries in science, medicine, biology, embryology, psychology, metrology, geology and many other disciplines and even space travel and wireless communications, all of which we take for granted today. He even predicted something from the past that would come true in the future, and it has..

The Qur'an, the final revelation of the God, states pharaoh was drowned in the Red Sea while chasing after Moses and Allah said He would preserve Pharaoh's body as a sign for the future. Dr. Maurice Bucaille in his book, "Bible, Quran and Science" makes it clear this has happened and the very person of Pharaoh has been discovered in Egypt and is now on display for all to see.
This event took place thousands of years before Mohammed -peace be upon him- and it came true in the last few decades, many centuries after his death.

Mohammed -peace be upon him- or his followers never at any time claimed that he was a son of God or the God-incarnate or a man with divinity – but he always was and is even today considered as only a Messenger chosen by God. He insisted people praise Almighty God, alone and not to celebrate him or his companions in any way. While most people do not hesitate to raise to divinity and even make 'gods' out of other individuals whose lives and missions have been lost in legend. Historically speaking, none of these legends achieved even a fraction of what Mohammed -peace be upon him- accomplished.

Uniting mankind together for the purpose of worshipping the One God of Adam and all the other prophets, peace be upon them all, was his main motivating cause and his striving was for the sole purpose having everyone to understand and follow the codes of moral excellence set forth by Allah in His Revelations.

Today after a lapse of fourteen centuries, the life and teachings of Mohammed -peace be upon him- have survived without the slightest loss, alteration or interpolation. They offer the same undying hope for treating mankind's many ills, which they did when he was alive. This is not a claim of Mohammed -peace be upon him- followers, but the inescapable conclusion forced upon by a critical and unbiased history.

Mohammed -peace be upon him- called people to believe in the God as One, without partners, and to follow the Commandments of Almighty God to the best of their abilities.

In the drawing:
These guys are wearing ancient Arab clothes.
The Arabic calligraphy صلى الله عليه و سلم "Sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam", means "Peace be upon him".
The man to the right dyed his beard with Henna. that's why it looks reddish.

I hope this is beneficial

The prophet believed that boning a 9-year-old is absolutely halal.

I beg your pardon bear but I have some clearer information for you.

mentally mature.

On an odd note, I almost wish that this kind of clothing had become popular during the gold rush. It seems rather practical for a desert setting, and Arizona is almost all desert.

I had thought that Mohammed -peace be upon him- was just a human who accomplished great things, it is very interestng to hear that he foretold future events too. I assume like Jesus -pbuh- Allah gave him this knowledge. I find it interesting too that the God allowed Jesus to perform the more supernatural miracles that he did, it appears that he allowed him to perform the most supernatural miracles out of all the prophet's (however to be fair I know mostly of the details of Christian Jesus, a little of Moses, Abraham and more about Mohammed now, so I may be wrong naturally).

Nayzak In reply to Katay-chan [2012-07-24 04:07:57 +0000 UTC]

I wouldn't say that Jesus -peace be upon him- miracles are the most supernatural ones among the prophets. splitting the sea by Moses -peace be upon him- and splitting the moon by Mohammed -peace be upon him- don't look less to me.
But in Islam, we believe that to every prophet, the God provided miracles that match the excellence of the people of his era. for example, in the time of Moses -peace be upon him-, the people of Egypt excelled in magic, so the God gave Moses magic-like miracles that are greater than those of the other people around him (turning the staff into snake for example...).
in the time of Jesus -peace be upon him-, the people excelled in medicine, so the God gave him medicine-like miracles greater than those of the people around him (bringing the dead back to life, healing...)
in the time of the prophet Mohammed -peace be upon him-, his people excelled in poetry, so the God gave him, among many other miracles, a miracle in their kind: the Qur'an. besides, this miracle, being given to the last prophet, had to have the ability to stand until the end of the world so that the generations to come will be able to see it, test it and check it. all other miracles (splitting the sea, bringing the dead back to life...) are only for the people who lived in that place and that time, while the Qur'an, is supposed to be a miracle for all generations to come...

and the God knows best...

I see, thank you for enlightening me more. I had not heard of the splittng of the moon before, it is quite amusing as I just found out from google that the moon does have a curious line running along one part of it, suggesting physical evidence of this miracle.

Thank you again.

Your view?

Very well done. I like it a lot.

Although, I was thinking of asking a question: According to Muslin Law (am I saying it right?), you mustn't draw Prophet Mohammed's face; as such that I found old paintings showing him with a white veil. However, since a problem that happened few years ago with Wikipedia, where some muslim communities complained to the organization because of said image in the Prophet's info page. Since then, the page shows the calligraphic representation of the Prophet's name.
So.... Why exactly we must not (and never according to some) draw the Prophet's face or even his own person and why there's different opinion's about it within the Muslin community?

P.S.: Please note that this question is of mere curiosity and to learn more about other people's culture and religion. If my question offended in some way, please forgive me as that's not my intention at all.

Peace be to you,

first, I thank you for asking me about my religion and I do respect your respectful manner in asking.

now regarding the prophet Mohammed -peace be upon him-. we can see the issue from different perspectives:
first, in Islam, it's forbidden to lie about the prophet (for example, to claim that he said what he didn't). any wrong depiction of the prophet is a kind of lying (portraying him in a way that's different from how he looked like) and no matter how the drawing is good, it can never be exact as the real prophet. so the drawing will be a false representation in the end. this applies not only to prophet Mohammed, but to all prophets of the God.
second, portraying the prophet may lead to a kind of idolatry. for example, if portraying the prophet is allowed, many artists may try to make (even respectful) images of him. and many people may hang these images at home and imagine the prophet to look like the picture. if drawing the prophet is acceptable, anyone would draw anything and write 'Mohammed' on it, children at school for example. some of these drawings may be thrown in trash, some government may want to make big statues and paintings representing the prophet. like this, when talking or thinking about the prophet, people are gonna imagine 'these' picture. this kind of false representation is not accepted in Islam. and in order to avoid it, all kinds of images about prophets are strictly forbidden.

know that different Muslim sects have different stances regarding the depiction of the prophet. some consider it strictly forbidden. and some accept 'respectful' depictions. now the question will be at what extent 'respectful' can be?

centuries ago, some artists did depict the prophet based on their imagination. there was no fuss about it because communication was less than today. I mean, if an artist in a certain town made a portrayal of the prophet, it's likely that not many people will see it. only people who were in that town and got access of that drawing could see it. all Muslims around the world wouldn't have heard of it. there was no media that will let you know what's happening in the other side of the globe. and even today, if western Media didn't try to make it big deal, many Muslims wouldn't hear it. but sadly, western Media is what starts the thing by making the news bigger than what it should be.

I believe the 'no portrayal of the prophet' applies only on us, Muslims. not on non-Muslims. if non-Muslims wanted to follow it out of respect, that would make us respect them. but the main problem in the 'Draw Mohammed' issue, in my opinion, is with the disrespectful drawings. some people who hate Islam took the opportunity in order to make an insulting drawing. and this is what offends the Muslims.

I hope this answers your question.

i think i have a theory about that
it might be wrong however
prophet mohammed came in a time when people worshiped statues
so if someone drew him then that drawing was turned into a statue people might worship that statue
it might sound stupid and all to us now because of education but stuff like that do happen in less educated societies
besides , does that really matter ?
is not drawing prophet mohammed of all people really bothers people that much ?

After--Life [2012-02-06 02:01:00 +0000 UTC]

Once the Prophet Muhammad (saw) was resting on a tree with his companions. He was alone at one point and an enemy spy was waiting for the perfect time to strike at the Holy Prophet (saw).

Then when the Prophet (saw) was alone, the spy came out with his sword and jumped at Muhammad (saw) and said 5 words, "Who will save you now?!"

The Prophet (saw), all calm without moving simply said, "Allah".

The moment he said that name, the sword in the enemy's hands dropped toward the ground and Muhammad (saw) quickly picked up the sword and reversed the position. Now the prophet (saw) pointed the sword toward the enemy spy and said, "Who will save YOU now?"

The spy said, "No one".

Then the Prophet (saw) said, "Why don't you say Allah?"

Then Muhammad (saw)'s companions showed up and he told them the whole story. Because our beloved prophet (saw) was a kind and merciful being, he forgave the spy, and the spy was so bewildered on what type of miracle man Muhammad (saw) was so he accepted Islam and believed in Allah as his guardian.

I don't try to be disrespectful or anything by the question I'm going to ask now and I hope I can learn more by your answer. ^^
My friend told me that it says in the Qur'ann (sorry if it is misspell) that the Prophet Mohammed said that any muslim that don't want to be a muslim has to be killed, is this true or is this like you have said something that people that don't like Islam just make up?
I learn so much from you about Islam and I like to talk to my friends but sometime they start saying stuff that I don't know if it's true or not about Islam so I think the best thing is to ask you to find the answerer. ^^

Thank you again for teaching me so much about Islam even if I'm more an atheist than a beliver but I still find religion very interesting

Nayzak In reply to Kamiflor [2012-02-10 16:43:53 +0000 UTC]

Peace be to you,
first, I'd like to thank you for asking me about my religion.
in Islam, faith is something that comes with proof and conviction. forcing someone to be a Muslim (or to remain a Muslim) is un-Islamic.

My friend told me that it says in the Qur'ann (sorry if it is misspell) that the Prophet Mohammed said that any muslim that don't want to be a muslim has to be killed
false. the Qur'an doesn't tell anything about the sayings of Mohammed -peace be upon him-. life is an important matter. and killing an apostate is a very important matter. but if you read the whole Qur'an, you find no mention about anything regarding punishing apostates. the qur'an repeats it many times that there is no compulsion in religion and that he who believes, it's for his own good. and he who doesn't believe, it's his own loss. the punishment of disbelieving is in the hereafter. not in this world. so the apostate should not be killed simply because he left Islam.

mina-i In reply to Kamiflor [2012-02-06 20:27:20 +0000 UTC]

ahaha it's probably isn't from Qur'an i've read Qur'an two times and no story of Mohammed talking to people is written in it it was revealed to him, so it's weird for it to tell his life or something. but there are many occassions that he is ordered to tell people certain things.

anyway, to come to your point, i really don't think any proper islamic source may have such expressions it is a very very essential principle in islam that every person should be free to make her or his own choice of belief. otherwise it'd be all meaningless to try to promote islam anyway mohammed says "there is no coercion in the religion" (with the religion he means islam -i'm trying to translate it properly but you get the meaning, right?) and Qur'an says "Unto you your religion, and unto me my religion". it's like saying let's not coerce one another ^_^

what you've heard is probably just made up ^^
