I was under the impression that the Bel-fire originates from a Celtic sun god Belenus? I think some people have tried to link it with the Semitic god Baal, but from what Ive read, this is a pretty tenuous link. What have you heard with regards to the Phonecians?

Only the theory (or fact) that the British are descendants of the Phoenicians who worshiped the sun, which ultimately gave rise to the Celtic/Pagan beliefs. I don't know where i got that, but i found a couple links to some books so i must have read it somewhere, sometime. More lost gray cells

hmm interesting, I'll look into it more... thanks for the link. I heard that Celts may have descended from the Phoenicians, but there were pre-celtic britons (who were probably also sun-worshippers) cultures tend to merge together. Its a shame we know so little about this period of history
