NATG Day 12 - Draw a pony sipping cocoa. Princess Luna in much the same vein as day eight's Rarity. Those snowflakes in the mane come from Up1ter's Luna Princess of Christmas .

I like how your princesses alternate between the sparkly flowing manes and the more normal manes they have when they're being slobs. It makes me think that the sparkles are just the result of some magical hair treatment, not sunbutt/moonbutt specialness.

I'm studying other artist.
With me I'm disappointed if I imagine a picture too much and it doesn't end the way I excepted it to. So instead I don't think about what I'm drawing....so the final product is always a surprise.

I feel pretty good about this drawing, for sure. I had a lot of fun drawing Luna in her winter outfit.
I've heard that some folks can envision a finished product from the get-go, but I have a hard time with that because there's always something that pops up along the way that I think will look totally wicked. I have an idea of what I want, for sure, but a lot of my drawing is experimentation and seeing what comes out. I have my guideline of what I want, but a lot of the time it's fairly vague. I spend a ton of time sketching around.
It's always good to want to get better, but I think it's got to come in baby steps. Being genuinely disappointed in ourselves isn't at all productive. It's OK to be critical, but from there it's really easy to slip into a depressed state rather than strive to get even better. I think that one of the best things anyone can do when drawing is have fun with it. To me, that's top priority. The moment it stops being fun is the moment it becomes a chore.

and the artist going into a depression thing. That's always really sad to see. You're gonna fail in art...that's just how it works. You have to fail. And art is something we love, its expressing ourselves. Peeps gotta realize that.
