I served in the US Army. Its regulations for long hair- on WOMEN ONLY-Β are that it not interfere with the wearing of a helmet, andΒ if it isΒ long enough to reach the collar, it must be tied into a bun. Jednostka's hair is long enough to reach her collar, but is not tied into a bun; that's why I assumed she (is Jednostka a woman?) is a private military contractor.

Well, there isn't much to say about shading, you just have to know your shapes and lighting direction, how it casts and the form shadows.
Lighting is a fairly funky science, very dependable on the environment~
