Actually, it's not improvement. They were all intentionally simple. This deviantart is for Yoh Yoshinari, famous animator of Studio Gainax and Trigger fame. Some of those drawings were frames for basic walk cycles that he did. Even in those sketches, you could see some great gestural drawings. Besides, you don't jump from rough sketches to detailed artwork so easily.
