Description so heres the cover to 9... was pleased with this as its rare for me to try and sort of perspective or foreshortening... mainly because its something that doesnt come naturally and i have deadlines...

wish i could naturally foreshorten, i think it adds a real sense of dynamics and impact to an image, maybe thats something i'll start working on

anyway, this took about 7 maybe 8 hours, which wasn't too bad going considering

the character is coyote kid, the towns resident gunslinger... best shot on the planet...

cant wait to sink my teeth in to this next arc... some real fun stuff showing up

Wow man, I have been a long time fan of your stuff, though I was first introduced to your work on Majestic. then went back and found what I could previous to that.

Ive definantly seen you grow as an artist in recent years, and I applaud your tenacity to get better with each project.

I have to say, this cover is amazing. It blew me away. I think you absolutely nailed it. Keep up the great work man. I look forward to seeing what you continue to do so well!

What kind of pen/ink did you use to do this? I'm curious... And what kind of paper? I know in your Studio picture, you had some sort of paper in there, is that what it was?

Bah, sorry for being so inquisitive, but I can't help it, lol.

I thought about what you wrote in the note you sent back to me, and I really think I'm up for doing something like this for a living.

But yeah, is what you use easily purchasable? Like in an arts/crafts store? o: I went there once, but I really didn't know what to look for...

no questions are completely fine... thats how we all learn

i use cheap printer paper, a4 which you can pick up in any stationary store... actually almost any store at all nowadays... so walmart and the like will definitely carry it

as for pens i use pilot drawing pens, size 01, 03, 05, 08 and i also use stabillo write 4 all markers in sizes small, fine and medium... you should also be able to pick them or something similar up in any stationers or supermarket as well... i would think walmart and the like would carry them as well...

you really dont need anything fancy.... obviously fancy pens and paper have their advantages... but to be honest its really not necessary

so yes... i make sure the equipment i use is easy to get and affordable... that way anywhere i am in the world, i can get the equipment i need to work

Thank you. I work at Wal*Mart, so I'll check out the stationary area next time I'm on the clock and see what they've got.

I appreciate the quick response!

see... quick response last time... took me forever this time, depends what time of the month you catch me on.... no deadlines = quick response...... deadlines = slooooooowwwwwww response

Lol, It's alright.

I completely understand what you're saying. Deadlines must be met so I know how that goes. But, any response at all is appreciated really.

So I thank you.

I'm still impressed with your patience with details, you're pics are so well thought and done. really good one, like the details he has on his shoes, I would have to drink over 3 liter cofee to be able to draw a 1/3 of all details you do >.< the pose and everything is superb in the pic, you are proud and you should be proud rly rly nice! keep em coming, love to watch ya art

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

Neil-Googe In reply to Tuff-Lan [2007-03-22 19:56:37 +0000 UTC]

thank you very much, details are just a matter of practice... i just kinda do them on the fly while inking, i'll be sure to post up a before and after soon, so the pencils then the inks...

i just find i keep some of the dynamics and energy if i add all the details while inking rather than tight pencils then traced... also it cuts down on drawing time... and with deadlines being what they are

anyway.... glad you enjoy the work... i aim to please

Yes! Western theme!

If possible, you have made me love Tranquility even more.

I feel your pain on forshortening...it comes about as naturally to me as rollerskating to a sea bass. You seem to have hit it dead on, though; awesome picture!

Neil-Googe In reply to talentless-scribbles [2007-03-22 20:28:57 +0000 UTC]

yeah the western character for tranquility is sooo cool, cant wait to start putting him in

you must be great at forshortening then... i could have sworn i just spotted a sea bass roller skate past me along the sea front

Curse evolution, and its invalidation of my carefully constructed similes!!

I can't wait for the western character, either...though if my eyes aren't decieving me, he's already been in the comic once, paying his last respects to a certain swashbuckling detective...

he was there... at the funeral indeed

nicely spotted... i'm actually just getting on to the arc where he really shows his stuff

its actually a little sad....

yeah i agree, i was pleased with this, but i wanted to get so much of the car in, the impact of the image suffered, i'll learn for next time though

EagleGosselin [2007-03-15 15:59:27 +0000 UTC]

Really hot, man. Fantastic perspective, gritty detailing. Tons of personality. I almost wish it didn't have to be coloured, but she'll do a great job with it.

You been lookin' at Mr. Yu?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Neil-Googe In reply to EagleGosselin [2007-03-15 16:13:30 +0000 UTC]

funny you should say that, the day i started this cover was the day he posted his black and white version... hence the amount of detail in my inks compared to normal

had already designed the character though... that was done at the beginning of last year

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

EagleGosselin In reply to Neil-Googe [2007-03-15 16:31:51 +0000 UTC]

Influences don't hurt. It worked well for this image.

The grit is so classically "cowboy." I just took a wild guess!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Neil-Googe In reply to EagleGosselin [2007-03-15 19:00:09 +0000 UTC]

no i think influences are a good thing, like i was saying in my studio practices, without them is difficult to progress... i dont think i can work in this way permanently, its just not... me... but will certainly be fun occasionally...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

EagleGosselin In reply to Neil-Googe [2007-03-15 19:21:34 +0000 UTC]

Absolutely. I wasn't saying it was bad. Great way to learn and grow; try different things.

Are you drawing those old-style comic pages in Tranquility too?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Neil-Googe In reply to EagleGosselin [2007-03-22 20:27:43 +0000 UTC]

yeah i know what you mean.... all i meant is i couldn't actually draw in that style all the time, is ok for one offs, but permanently, would drive me insane

as you say, is like the old pages in tranquility, i dont mind changing styles for a few pages, but i couldn't keep it up as they take me so long as i have to force them

i wont be doing the flash back pages in the second arc though, i struggled to kee deadlines to much while doing them
