Personality: Tora is a mild mannered young man who normally keeps his opinion to himself. The only exception to this is on the volleyball court; he goes from a quiet follower to a confident leader. Part of the reason Tora keeps to himself at times is the fact that he is deaf in his left ear. While he does wear a hearing aid, it doesn’t always help; often he resorts to lip-reading. His grades are good, hanging around low A’s; for he often spends studying time in the gym. He is self-conscious about his health, looking good and keeping in shape means a lot to him. He is rather laid back and smiles, trying his best to stay on people’s good side.

History:
                Tora comes from mixed blood line, his mother traces her ancestry back to eastern Russian. Her family had fled Russia during the cold war era and settled down in Japan. While the Russian blood is not as strong Tora’s blood as his mother, his height is assumed to be part of it. Tora’s father worked as a lawyer, dealing mainly with civil cases while his mother was a nurse at the Misaki Hospital in Isumi, Chiba, Japan. Young Tora was a heathly kid growing up, expect for his constant ear infections. Just as soon as one cleared up, another one developed. Each infection took it’s toll on Tora’s ear, eventually it damaged his left ear drum enough to make him completely deaf in his left ear. He would finally grow out his childhood ear infections but he is forced to wear a hearing aid. After getting so many infections, Tora took extra effort to stay in shape and be healthy. It would soon develop into making sure that he looked his best at all times. He grew his hair out long to help cover up his hearing aid, soon he came to like the long hair and decided not to cut it. Bullies often targeted Tora in school, eventually he got into the habit of “selective hearing”, and basically he would simply not listen to people and claim that he couldn’t hear them. Being taller than most boys, Tora wanted to be in a sport that his height was important. He was between basketball and volleyball; both sports he enjoyed but he pursued volleyball, less contact and change of someone knocking his hearing aid out. Junior high was the roughest for Tora, so much so that he didn’t want to attend the local high school and dealing with those same people again. Through some searching, he found Miyagawa Academy. The stories captured him, it sounded like a great place to start anew. Once he was accepted, he quickly joined the Volleyball team; eventually becoming the captain.
