Description My first ever attempt at drawing this guy .

doodled this a few weeks ago. Shared it on tumblr and it got surprisingly popular (by my tumblr standards, anyway) so I'm sharing here, too.

Huh. Never saw you post this on Tumblr. Do you remember how many notes this got?

Either way it still looks good! Soul is protagonist eye-candy. He has a good design and a good personality to boot.

no soul why is your disembodied bust there without a scythe D:

[link] so far 27, which is a big deal for my original artwork posted on tumblr.

Yeah, I really like the design sense in the whole series
What I can't stand are Soul's proportions in the anime, and the ridiculously deep voice he has both in English and Japanese x_x (honestly, how am I supposed to enjoy romantic fanfics when the characters look like little kids, but sound like adults?!)

Because Nekno drew this in a place with no internet connection and only had this saved manga page as reference.

Sorry, but I might have accidentally contributed to a few more notes on that post. I'm sure you don't mind too much.

Yesssssss the character design is lovely. I think the only design I didn't like was that cat's. Blaire, right? I mean, as a cat she was okay, but her human form is... well... grossly oversexualized. Yeah, yeah, fanservice and all that jazz, but it can be pretty alienating for some people and just... really........ awkward. Considering SHE'S A CAT AND STUFF.

Also, I never found Soul's voice to be very deep. Not in the English dub at least. I actually thought the whole series was really well cast. Save for Maka's dad.

Goddamn Vic Mignogna.

Damn him and how all of his work sounds the same.

Ooh, thanks Quail!

I don't like Blair. Period.
yes, her design is oversexualized; also, she is impossible to draw realistically as a cat, and I don't take well to that >:I

I got a real shock when I heard Soul speak for the first time. I vaguely remember my sis telling me it wasn't that deep in Japanese. When I heard him in Japanese, I said "What the hell Comix! His voice is even deeper in Japanese! D8<"

For some reason, I just don't pin deep voices on characters when I read them (unless there's a description that says they have them) so it's almost always a shock when I hear them for the first time.
Random, off-topic example tiem: Take this awesome character . I 100% expected him to sound like this guy (the effeminate one). Imagine my reaction when it turned out to be this .

I'm also sick of Vic Mignogna, though I don't mind the performance he did for Spirit, I think it's funny and fits decently most of the time.

Black Star's voice, on the other hand, is like nails on a chalkboard to me

I tend to watch the anime before reading the manga so usually that just gets some very conksuck voices stuck in my head while reading. I might hate a character's voice but then I can't ever get it out of my head.

Bad Quail Practices #4

One of those links go to a private video, but I was able to find a clip that had that English VA for that character and I have to agree that something a little more swingy and even a bit sassier would have been a better choice for a character who struck me as effeminate, like you said.

I could write a thesis about why I dislike Mignogna but nobody would ever read it. But, A) he's a jerk irl and B) he's in just about everything. Goddammit Funimation

Oh wow, Black Star just strikes me as the quintessential obnoxious person people think about when you mention "anime" to them. I don't find him interesting, his voice AND dialogue are irritating, and he just makes me feel so bad for any person he talks to.

All the sympathies go to Tsubaki.

Whoops! This link should work [link]

I've done that on a few animes, too. Fortunately none had characters with overly annoying voices (except maybe some of the Japanese Bleach cast). One big reason why I prefer to read it first.

I've heard that Mignogna is an A class asshole IRL, and a homophobe too. Though I don't watch enough anime to really notice how he's in everything.

Amen.

There's an anime up and coming for one of my favorite mangas called Silver Spoon and I really hope they do a good job with the voices for it.

Actually, I think you'd enjoy Silver Spoon. It's by Hiromu Arakawa, the lady behind FMA, and it deals with a lot of agricultural topics and fun themes. Its a pretty lovely story about a guy who knows nothing about farms, yet he goes to a prestigious agricultural school out in the middle of secluded Japan. Not only is it hilarious and at-times pretty deep, its also really informative. Also, its ongoing. Over 70 chapters as of now.

Oh yay, more reasons to hate that egotist. That's also kind of ironic, seeing as the majority of the anime community, the community he does most of his work for, is LGBT supportive.
