An illustration from an ancient text for the M* universe. My goal here was only to set the mood, so I do not really have a developed concept of who or what the depicted thing is. Broadly speaking it is probably some kind of wild angelic being as it appeared in somebody's vision.

In the M* role playing game Seraphism is a magical practice which allows a mortal to make pacts with transcendental beings who thereafter act as the mortals patrons. A pact like this grants the mortal the powers of his or her patron and in return the patron can manifest in the body of the mortal when he or she becomes powerful enough.

The greatest magicians of the M* universe believe the manifestation might have a role in the transcendental beings development and it could even be a way for them to become a god (or reclaim their lost godhood). This is not the normal and acceptable way of deification, and even though it is a quick way for godhood it is dangerous for both the patron and the mortals. If the otherworldly being makes too many pacts they might consume it's power and if it succeeds in manifesting itself it's presence can seriously damage the material plane.

Therefore most of the beings who make pacts like this are usually demons or at lest have wild, capricious nature and questionable morals. Even if their intentions are true they have incredible power and they evolved far beyond the comprehension of mortals making them deep ones and inapprehensible abominations in their eyes.
