Description Lance dagger

Fantasy weapon concept for the M* universe. The lance dagger is a multipurpose weapon with a collapsible pole able to transform from a lance to a dagger or short sword and back.
During infighting (wrestling or fighting extremely close to the opponent) or in close quarters where pole weapons are useless it behaves like a dagger while on an open battlefield the advantages of a long weapon can be exploited.

Idea and inspiration

Max had some armor concepts that looked positively like origami, so I started researching origami a while back, looking for inspiration. I did not find anything that I could use as a shield or armor (or at least not with my limited artistic skills) but i did find an interesting design: the Twisted Tower by Mihoko Tachibana .
This pole is a modified version of that origami structure. If my calculations are correct, than the original one introduces some stress to the paper sheet while being twisted. This is ok for a material as flexible as paper and even helps the structure to stay erect, but would be disastrous for a metal weapon.
So I tweaked the angles a little bit and used a different way of assembling the same structure (the difference is a slightly visible on the top middle figure). It took me quite some time to figure this one out and several details such as how the collapsed pole is stored in the grip of the dagger is not shown, but I think the overall picture is clear and you have the feeling that it is a great piece of engineering. (After all this weapon is supposedly made in Kahre so you have to have that feeling.)
I think this concept is cool because in fantasy and sci-fi we often see sticks that are clearly not telescopic but can collapse to extremely small size without any explanation of how they work.
