Description (Still) David's POV

"Huh!?" I exclaimed. Miranda laughed out loud at my expression. "Oh, come on, don't be shy, David," she laughed. "But…" I said. "No 'but's! She picked dare," Alex joined in. Oh, dang it… I looked at Delilah, not sure what to do. Her cheeks were starting to get red. Is she blushing!? I felt the blood run to my cheeks for the millionth time this night. Oh, dang it… I'm blushing, too… I smiled sheepishly at her. I had no idea if we were actually going to do it. "Kiss! Kiss!" Ashley cheered. I felt my whole face burning. Delilah leaned in. I closed my eyes. I didn't know what to do. Gosh! I've never done this before! How do I do this? My whole body tensed as I waited for her lips to touch mine. Huh? I felt her lips against my cheek and slowly opened my eyes to see her pull away again. "No! That wasn't a real kiss!" Miranda objected, but Delilah just giggled and said, "You didn't say where to kiss him." "That's not fair!" Alex joined the objection. "Yeah, you have to give him a real kiss!" Ashley said. Kaylee didn't say anything. I cracked a relieved smile at Delilah as she said, "No no, I was told to kiss him and I did."

Suddenly Delilah's cell started ringing. She excused herself and left the room to go somewhere with a little less noise. "Aww, she seems really sweet, David," Miranda told me. "Yeah, she is!" I said and smiled at her. "Weren't you two supposed to be talking about something?" I smiled at her and then looked over at Alex. "Oh, uh… Yeah…" Alex said and smiled shyly at Miranda. They got up and left the room. "Aww, there's so much love in the air tonight," Ashley said and sighed dreamily. "Love is in the aiiiiir!" I sang and giggled. Ashley giggled too and Kaylee cracked a smile at me. This time it reached her eyes, and it made my heart flutter. Delilah returned and put a hand on my shoulder. I looked up at her. "Can I talk to you?" she said. "Sure," I smiled and got up.

We went out into the entrée, which was filled with people. "Maybe we could go outside?" she suggested. Wonder why she's so secretive? I nodded and followed her outside. "What's up?" I said as we went out in Miranda's backyard. It was pretty dark, but lights from the windows lit up the place a bit. You could hear the music out here, too, I was wondering why no one had complained about the noise yet. "My mom called me; My brother has fallen down the stairs at home and broken his leg-" "OH MY GOSH!" I exclaimed before she could finish. She laughed and said, "It's not serious, but she had to go to the hospital with him, and she needed me to come home and take care of my little sister." "Oh… Of course!" I said, "Oh! So you have to… leave?" I said a bit disappointed. "I'm sorry," she said. "No no, it's okay… I'll drive you home then," I said. "That's what I wanted to talk to you about. You have to stay here, Archie!" she said. "What do you mean? You need my help, of course I'll go with you," I insisted. "I'll come home another way. You need to stay here – don't you get it? Kaylee's boyfriend isn't here, and she clearly wasn't too happy about me being here. Don't you see? You have to talk to her while you have the chance!" she said.

"Huh? Are you crazy? I'm not gonna make a move on her while she's dating my friend!" I objected. Wonder if Alex popped anything in her soda!? She must be crazy! Oh my gosh! "Yeah okay, I see the problem, but… Please… It's your friends, too, and I can't stand the thought of you missing the rest of the party because of me. I'm not allowing you to leave for me," she simply said. "Well… Let me at least lend you the car then, you can give it back tomorrow or something," I said. "But, it's your parents' car?" she said and giggled a bit. "They'll understand…" I said and fished the keys out of my pocket, "Here, hurry up!" I said. "Thanks, Archie," she smiled at me and gave me a quick peck on the cheek before she quickly ran off. Huh?? "Please tell the others that I'm sorry I had to leave!" she yelled over her shoulder. I just stood there staring in the direction she'd left in.

I went back in to find Kaylee sitting alone in the couch. I went to sit down beside her. Gosh… She's so close. How did I get the courage to do this? "Hi," I murmured at her. She smiled slightly. "Hey," she said. "Where did everyone go?" I said. "Well, Miranda and Alex are still talking and Ashley went for the bathroom, I think…" she said, "Where's Delilah?" she said. "Oh… She had to leave, her brother broke his leg, so she had to go home and take care of her sister while her mom went to the hospital with her brother," I said. "Oh, I'm sorry," she said. I just smiled carefully at her. My heart was beating unevenly and I could feel a sweat drop form at my hairline. "She seems really nice… I'm happy for you," she said and caught my gaze. I felt dizzy for a second as I stared back into her eyes. I wish I could say the same… Woah, those eyes. How is that kind of blue possible?! "Oh… Uhm… Yeah, uh, thanks…" I said and smiled. I wanted her to like Delilah but I didn't really want her to be happy about me dating her. Why wouldn't she? She's my friend, and she's dating Josh, she have no reason not to be happy for me…

I realized that we were still staring into each other's eyes and quickly looked away. Gosh, I have to learn to stop staring. "Kay!" a voice said. My heart sunk at the voice. Josh. It's not that I don't like him… It's just that… Uh… Okay, right now I don't like him that much… Dang it! "Do ya mind?" he said and gestured for me to move so he could sit next to Kaylee. "Uhm… Sure…" I said and got up. "Hey babe," Josh said and kissed her full on the lips. I quickly looked away, though I caught a glimpse of her turning her head so that his lips kissed her cheek instead. I couldn't help smiling. I left the room to go find Ashley; I didn't want to see them together.

Kaylee's POV

"Do ya mind?" Josh said and gestured for David to get up. "Uh… Sure…" David said and got up. My heart sunk at that. I didn't want him to leave. I knew it was wrong to feel that way when Josh – the one I was supposed to feel that way about – was standing right there. Josh sat down in David's place and said, "Hey babe," he quickly leaned in and kissed my lips. By pure reflects I turned my head and made him kiss my cheek instead. I saw David leave from the corner of my eye. "Hi," I muttered at Josh. He leaned in again, trying to kiss me. I could smell alcohol and as he pressed his lips to mine, I could taste it, too. "Are you drunk?" I asked as I pulled away. "Oh, relax…" he said and grinned. "No… Are you?" I said. "No!" he said. I didn't believe him. I got up from the couch, but he grabbed my hand.

"Hey! Don't go!" he said. "Come back when you're sober," I said. "I am sober!" he said and got up. I could still smell the alcohol. I knew he wasn't sober; He had a hard time keeping his balance, too. "Don't lie to me," I said. "Why would I lie to you, gorgeous?" he slurred. "I don't know, but you are," I just said and pulled my hand out of his. "I'm sorry… I just wanted to kiss you hello," he said and seemed sober for a second. "You already did," I said and smiled, I knew it didn't reach my eyes. "A real kiss," he said and moved closer. "Josh, you're drunk…" I just said, backing away. "Why won't you kiss me?" he said and slurred again. I didn't answer. "What's wrong? Don't you like me? Why are we dating, if you don't like me?" he kept going. He'd raised his voice to a rather loud level. "Hey Josh, would you calm down, buddy?" I heard Alex' voice from behind.

"Why would I? My girlfriend doesn't like me!" he said and stared at me with eyes filled with anger and hurt. "I never said-" I started, but he cut me off "You're a heartless bitch, you know that?" he spat at me. He was about to come closer, his expression turning more angry by the second, when Alex filled the space between us and blocked Josh's way to me. I could feel my eyes welling up by the words he'd said. After all; He was still my boyfriend. It hurt pretty bad to hear him say a thing like that. "Hey hey, calm down!" Alex yelled at him. I quickly wiped the first tears coming down my cheeks away. He completely ignored Alex and continued yelling at me, "Huh? Do ya? Of course you do! Do you enjoy being fake? You're just a whore!" "Hey! Josh! Look at me! Relax, okay!?" I heard Alex say, but I was already on my way out of the room.

As I made my way to the doorway, I couldn't see clearly anymore because of the tears streaming from my eyes. I bumped right into someone and managed to catch a glimpse of a pair of hazel eyes through my tears. I hurried past him and out the door; I got to the sidewalk as I tripped over something and twisted my ankle. I fell to the ground and scraped my palms a bit, as I braced my fall. I tried to get up, but my ankle was hurting. I looked towards the entrance of Miranda's house, but no one was out here anymore.

David's POV

I was on my way to the living room as Kaylee bumped into me. She looked up at me with tear-filled eyes. Gosh! Is she crying!? Then she ran off. I was too much in shock to do anything. "Nothing but a whore!" I heard Josh yell. I wasn't a guy to get angry very often, but as I understood what was going on, I could feel my muscles tensing. "Don't talk to her like that!" I heard myself say. What are you doing, David!? It was as if I wasn't controlling my own body anymore. "David, I'm trying to calm him down!" Alex said, but he was drowned out as Josh yelled, "What are you gonna do about it?" he stared at me with angry eyes. I actually didn't know what I was going to do. My hands balled up into fits and I prayed that I wouldn't do something stupid. "It's ridiculous to even try to do anything about it! Look at you, David, you couldn't even beat a 5-year-old girl!" he spat at me. Who'd want to beat up a little girl, anyways!? Gosh!

"You're just jealous because she's my girlfriend!" he slurred. "That's why I think you should treat her better than that!" I said. He ignored me and continued, "Look at you! She wants a real man! Not a little boy! Seriously – what's up with your baby face!?" he taunted. I could sense that he was drunk but it still hurt. The fact that I knew she wanted him and not me. "I thought you said she didn't like you…" Alex muttered. "Shut up!" Josh slurred. "Come on, let's get you home, buddy…" Alex said and swung Josh's arm over his shoulder as Josh was about to lose balance. "Would you help me open the door?" Alex said. I nodded and followed them. I'd be more than happy to get rid of Josh. I was still shaking with anger. As I opened the door I heard Kaylee's voice yelling, "Someone! Please! Help!"

I stared out into the night to catch sight of her and I found her almost at once. She was sitting on the sidewalk with her hands around her left ankle. "I'll help her," I told Alex and hurried outside. As we got outside Josh yelled, "Stay away from her, David! Remember, she's with me!" "I'll get him home," Alex said. I nodded and ran to Kaylee.

"Kaylee! Are you okay?" I said. "I, uh, think I've twisted my ankle," she said, her voice was still a little shaky from crying. "Oh gosh! Let me see…" I said and she carefully moved her hands. It was pretty swollen. "Oh no… Let me get you some ice for that," I said and was about to get up. "No wait!" she said. "Huh?" I said. "I really just wanna go home, so could you just help me stand up, please?" she said. "You can't walk all the way home with that ankle," I said, but I helped her up anyway. "Sure I can," she said and took a step. "OW!" she exclaimed and I managed to catch her before she'd fall to the ground again. "Okay, I guess not…" she murmured. "Let me get you that ice, okay?" I said. "It's okay, I just wanna go home…" she said. "Then let me help you home," I said. "You don't have to…" she said. "Yeah, I do, just a sec," I said and ran to the house and found our jackets.

I hurried outside again and helped her get her jacket on before I put my own on. "Okay, put your arms around my neck," I said. "What?" she said. "Just do it," I said. She hesitantly did as I told her and I quickly moved my left arm in under her legs and wrapped my right arm around her waist. She squealed a bit as I lifted her up. "What are you doing?" she asked me surprised as I started walking down the street while carrying her in my arms. "I'm helping you home," I said. Wow, I'm stronger than I thought… Or else she's just as heavy as a feather… "You can't carry me all the way home, David," she said and looked at me with a skeptical look. "Just sit back and enjoy the ride, are you comfortable?" I said. She nodded. "Good," I smiled.

"Hey, I'm sorry about Josh…" I said. "Me, too," she said. "Hey, don't believe a word he said, you're not any of those things…" I said. She smiled carefully at me, "Thanks, David," she said. "You're welcome," I mumbled and felt myself blush. I hoped she couldn't feel my heart beating unevenly and fast as I realized how close she was. "What happened?" I asked her quietly. She sighed and closed her eyes. "It's okay if you don't want to talk about it, I don't want to nag or anything," I quickly said. "No, it's okay… He just couldn't understand that I didn't want to kiss him, when he was drunk. I mean, he shouldn't even have been drunk in the first place. That was just plain idiotic," she said. "Oh…" I just said. "I'm sorry I ruined your night," she said after a couple of seconds where no one had spoken. "Ruined it? What do you mean?" I said.

"Well… To start with; I don't think I was as nice to Delilah as I could've been… And now you have to carry me home and miss the rest of the party…" she said and seemed annoyed with herself. I didn't really know what to say; I was more than happy to carry her home as that meant that I could spend some time with her alone, even though I knew that nothing was going to happen between us. "I'm sorry about the thing with Delilah… The thing is… I really want the best for you, you know? Not that I don't think that she is. I just wanna make sure…" she said and it looked like she blushed. "Oh…" I said. It kinda shocked me to hear that, not in a bad way, but I was surprised that she would care so much.

"I care a lot about you, David," she said and we made eye contact for a second before she looked away again. "I, uh, care a lot about you, too," I said, confused by the turn of the conversation. If only she knew how much I cared about her… If only I could tell her… "It seems like you care a lot about her, too," she said, "She's your first girlfriend, right?" "I… Uh… Yeah…" I just said and blushed. Stupid blushing! Dang it… Gosh I hate this stupid lying thing… But I can't tell her the truth now… 'Cause then I'd have to tell her about my feelings for her, too… Dang it! "She's a lucky girl," she said and smiled at me. "Josh's a lucky guy," I replied, "That is, if you still want to date him after this…" I added. Though I knew, it was wrong I secretly hoped that she wouldn't. "I don't know," she said and looked sad, "I guess I'll have to wait and see what he has to say when he's sober…" "Guess that would be the best," I said. "Hey, your back must be killing you. Put me down, please?" she said.

I stopped and put her down, still supporting her weight. "You know you can't walk," I just said. "If you support me I can," she just said and placed my arm around her waist and swung her own arm over my shoulder. I was a bit taller than she was, so I had to bend down a bit. We walked for a bit while I supported her and she limped along. 5 minutes later, she had to stop. "Can we take a little break?" she said. "I can carry you again, if you want," I said. "I need to sit down for a bit," she said and was about to sit down on the sidewalk. "Wait!" I said. "What?" she said and frowned. I quickly pulled my jacket off and put it on the spot where she'd been about to sit down. "Now you can sit," I said and giggled as she grinned and rolled her eyes at me.

She sat down on my jacket and I sat down next to her. "Now you'll get cold," she said. "I'll be fine," I just said. We'd managed to walk pretty far, but there was still a long way to her home. The street was deserted and luckily, we were only a few meters from a lamppost, so that I could see her face in the dimmed light. I smiled carefully at her. I wanted to scoot closer and hug her, but I knew I couldn't. "So… Why was Josh yelling at you when you guys got outside?" she asked quietly. "Well… Uh… I defended you, when you had ran off, and then he started to take it out on me, I guess…" I said. "What'd he say?" she asked. I sensed a bit of anger in her voice. "Oh, uh… Nothing… He just… Rambled on…" I said, not really wanting to tell her. "No, I wanna know," she said and caught my gaze. "I… Uh… He said that I was just jealous, 'cause he was with you, and I wasn't…" I said.

I had no idea why I was telling her. Something in her eyes made me tell the truth. She didn't say anything; she just kept on gazing at me. God knows why I continued, "He said that you wanted a real man and not a little boy with a baby face like me…" She frowned, but kept gazing at me. It occurred to me that we were sitting rather close, though I'd wanted to scoot even closer, and I was about to move a bit away to get her some more space, when she put a hand on my knee. I blinked and looked at her. Huh? Why is she- "He said that?" she asked and interrupted my thoughts. She gently stroke my knee with her thumb, comforting. My skin burned where she touched me, but not in a bad way. Not at all. I nodded, unable to do anything else. I'm sure I look like a total goof right now… Gosh! "That's not true, you know…" she said. I didn't know what she meant, but I couldn't reply to that even if I knew. I was too mesmerized by the feeling of her hand on my knee.

"That was really sweet of you to defend me," she said looked down at the ground. She was smiling shyly. If she only knew how much I wanted to kiss her. "No problem," I muttered, "I just had to tell him that he couldn't talk about you that way." "I'm glad you did," she smiled. I returned her smile and said, "But then he just said that I was jealous and all that jazz, you know, that really hasn't anything to do with him treating you right." "Proves his drunkenness," she said. I just nodded. "… Are you?" she said. "Huh? Am I drunk? Uh… No…?" I said, not understanding. "No… Are you… You know… Jealous…" she said and looked really shy. Her hand was still on my knee, still burning my skin. Dang it! What should I tell her? The truth? Why would she ask! Gosh! "I… Uh…" I said hesitantly. She gazed at me again. Gazed into my eyes. I knew I couldn't lie.

"Well… I mean… Uh… Who wouldn't be? You're a really… uh… sweet girl… I mean…" I said, trying to make it less obvious. I was rambling randomly on, still trying to cover up the truth with a lot of rambling, when she cut me off. Oh my GOSH! Before I could react or even stop talking I felt her lips crashing into mine. I eventually stopped talking, but I was too surprised to do anything but close my eyes. I had no idea when she'd come this close, but I didn't care at that point. She kissed me slowly and carefully, as it was my first kiss I didn't really know what to do. I felt her tongue running over my lower lip and automatically I slowly opened my mouth a bit and let my tongue meet hers. The butterflies were going crazy in my stomach. It felt as if there were so many that I was going to burst. I felt her hands on my shoulders as they ran up to my neck, leaving goose bumps all the way up to my cheeks as she let them run through my hair, stopping at the neck, where she grabbed it and pulled lightly. Oh. My. GOOOOSH! I myself had cupped her cheeks at some point with my own hands. I wanted to kiss her forever and never let go, but unfortunately I had to pull away to breathe.

I gazed into her eyes, still cupping her cheeks. I had no idea how that'd just happen, but I was really happy. She slowly loosened her grip at my hair and pulled further away. "I'm… Uh… Sorry…" she muttered. I was still dazed; all I could say was "Huh?" "I shouldn't have kissed you, I'm sorry… You're with Delilah… You haven't even kissed her yet, I shouldn't have stolen that from you…" she said and tried to get up without much luck. What? No! She can't say that! I want to be with YOU, Kaylee! Please, brain, work! Say something  David! Stop being dazed! Come on! Wake up! I opened my mouth to say something, but nothing came out. "Don't go…" I murmured. "I have to," she said, "before I'll do more stupid things…" "But it wasn't-" I said but was interrupted by a car pulling up to the sidewalk.

The door opened and Alex popped his head out. "Hey, how did you get that far? Anyways… I saw you two walking off and thought that it might be better if I drove Kaylee home, then you don't have to carry her either, Archie," he said. Before I could say anything, Alex was out and helping Kaylee into the car. "Do you want to go back with me to the party afterwards?" Alex asked me. "Uh… No, it's fine…" I murmured. "Okay then… I'd give you a ride, but it's another route to your house than to Kaylee's and you know…" he said, "It's fine… I'll get home myself, it's not that long," I said. "Okay… Gotta go then, see you, Archie!" Alex said and got into the car. "I'm sorry, David," Kaylee just said before she closed the door and they drove along. I stared after them, not really getting what'd just happened.
