Description
This is a commissioned drawing. The model is my friend Lexi, and it was commissioned as a gift for her by another friend.

I was given a blurry cell phone image as reference and asked to draw it with a Celtic theme. I spent a great deal of time working and reworking the face to get it to look like Lexi. Drawing from a blurry reference is hard. Drawing on black paper is harder, because I can't use a grid and/or sketch out the drawing first in order to perfectly replicate her facial features. If I got even 1 wrong angle or 1 shadow out of place, it looked like a totally different person. In the past, when I've drawn color portraits, recognition was not important because I was drawing an unknown person.

All in all, I think this turned out pretty well. I'm pretty proud of it. I believe I caught Lexi's likeness and her expression in the drawing very well. I wish the background looked more realistic, since I used a digital image as my reference it turned out looking a little cartooney.
