Description I loved the reference when I saw it, but knew I could never do it justice in graphite. So I've tried it in color, and I just love how it turned out. Not perfect, by any means, but I'm learning.

Someone gave me a tip about my constantly broken wax cores in my colored pencils... zap them in the microwave! I zapped all of my pencils for 15 seconds, and so far I haven't had a single broken core since! (though the silver labels on the pencils were smoking when I opened the door X-| OOPS!)

Octopus are not this color in real life, but I was following the reference photo. I'm not sure if it was colorful lighting, or post production photoshopping that caused this lovely play on purples and blues.

Hey Tonya - it turned out great! Question - what do you think of the colorless blenders? are they a worthy investment?

Hey Andrea,

I actually just got a couple of cheap blenders, and I think they were worth it. It allows me to smooth and burnish and apply a lot of pressure without breaking my color pencils, nor going through them quickly. The blenders seem much more dense and durable. The ones I got are woodless, and the entire pencil is wax based.

It takes practice, though... the blenders will smudge/blur any detail you go over
