This is AMAZING. You must've put so much thought into it...I love the story behind it...It gave it so much meaning.

Thanks alot! Yeah it was one of those times that you suddenly just come up with an idea and then you start adding little details to it.

I imagine this is what every sensitive or deep thinker type-guy who goes out on the battle field most go through on the inside. I absolutely love this. and I don't say this in any attempt to belittle anyone's troops

Thanks alot! Yeah I mean war is never a good thing and those soldiers aren't heartless, they're just humans like anyone else and have feelings. It must be torturous to go through something like that.

exactly
i imagine it's like a rude awakening - that they aren't just fighting these soulless terrists or monsters - these people have a God and families and feelings. the addictions they get after retiring come as completely understandable to me

You know I think in the end probably the ones to blame for this are both the terrorists and Al Qaeda and the U.S. Government since they seem to not be civilized enough to treat their differences properly and make peace. And also because none can seem to satisfy there evergrowing ambitions, the terrorists by pleasing their God in horrendous ways (I don't disrespect the Muslim relegion, but when they instigate the thought of killing as a blessing, that is just horrible, I'm sure Allah never preached that), and the U.S. for oil. That's the problem with the world today, capitalists keep depleting the world of its beauty and communists and false revolutionaries and terrorists are dictators who only want to create unecsessary violence on those who oppose their fantatical and abstarct "cause" (I happen to live under one, Hugo Chavez of Venezuela, he is just the image of the serpent itself), and both sides never get along like when to children fight for a toy. There is no right side in this world and unfortunately, we the people and the brave soldiers who give their lives for someone elses cause are trapped in the middle of their selfish arguements.

I completely agree with what you're saying. The sad part about Muslims though is that they cherrish life so much that just painting a picture resembling a human is like mocking Allah to them. These terrorists, or extremists, they can call themselves muslims all they want but it's so obvious that they're only trying to make up an excuse to feed their hunger for blood and power. I've seen so many islamic children fall silent and their mothers cry at the mentioning of Sudan Husane. It's horrible.

The quest for power is always there and relegion has always been that excuse to keep harvesting that power. It also happens with the Catholic church, I mean, how come a bunch of wealthy priests live in a golden palace while beggars are dying of hunger outside? Aren't they supposed to lead simple lives anyways? Shouldn't they devote their life to helping people? There are just things in these world that are so contradicting and yet the only thing needed to solve them is honesty and good will, yet people think being good is being weak.

and to be feared is to be powerful. It's the only reason the crusades ever happened.
and if you look at it now, wih our country falling further and further away from religion, now the excuse is "national security"
ugh

WoOoW. This is amazing. I'm amazed that you could get that much feeling into just a picture. That takes a lot of talent, my dear.

Thanks alot for the compliment. That was my top priority: feeling. I want my pictures to have more depth than any thing else if they are to be submmited to AP. I sincerely don't know how I came up with this one tho, I just thought of contrasting such different images like the soldier and the pacifier, and it worked!

It's nice to know artists still care about that kind of stuff. I'm stuck around alot of mediocre ones in my art class, and it's a refreshing change to get on here and find people with the same priorities.

Yeah I know what you mean. Like art can still be great art if its lets say the concept art of a badass looking medieval warrior with very detailed armor. But its totally different if you make a warrior with a type of armor and pose that is representative or contrasting of his character. You mostly see that type of depth on paintings that were done in the rennissance period, those were just celestial works of art. Tho I've seen alot of great art with alot of meaning here too hehe.

The only problem with renaissance period is I have such difficulty finding ones that don't have snooty looks on their faces. You appear to have better luck with that. Random favor: would you mind directing me to some of your favorite renaissance pics? I have to do a renaissance master for my Art class, and i am having little/no luck finding any that grab my attention.

Hehe you're right about those looks but here, I have a great artist for you. I was recently at an art gallery in the Ghetty Museum that exposed several of his arts, he is called Jean-LΓ©on GΓ©rΓ΄me, he is not from that period (he's from 1800's) but he does do that type of artwork. Here is one of my favorite pieces that particularly shocked me when I saw it at the museum [link] Good luck with you art class!

The picture is a good one - full of objects representing innocence, as you've stated in your exhaustive explanation. Key word: exhaustive.
No seriously, use paragraphs, they're there for a reason. I came here to see art, not a novel :3
But I like the piece - it's very dark and melancholy, which appeals to me personally, and the idea of a battle-hardened, war-torn soldier hiding in a cave longing for better times is a novel idea. The amount of detail put into the main focal point is great, and it's really paid off on the overall picture.
However, there are a few downers - compared to the exquisite detail to the focal point, the background seems blurry and undefined, and his hair seems unnatural. Other then that... that's pretty much all I can pick out - it's a great picture, and it's a great addition to your art portfolio.
Feel free to hate on me for being a bastard about the paragraphs, but it made your comment, which turned out to be rife with useful information, almost unreadable.

Haha don't worry man, I'm planning to be a future writer so I indeed use paragraphs but for internet puposes I guess I don't care that much hehe. In regards to the background and hair, the BG I actually planned it out to be blurry since its supposed to be a post-apocalyptic scenario with a sort of desert storm in the back. And the hair, I KNEW SOMETHING WAS WRONG!! Thanks for pointing it out, I'll probably re-define the edges so they fit in better with the background. Anways, thanks alot for your constructive-critisicm, not many people take the time to write something these days hehe.
