Description NICE TITLE, EH?

This is my midterm project for my Art 123: Descriptive Drawing class. We were to render something that focuses on trompe-l'oeil, something that "tricks the eye." We could do stuff like glass or reflection, whatever. Originally I wanted to do a combination lock with Mardi-Gras beads on a laptop and a mirror, but it was too hard and I "spilled coffee on it" so I ditched that project a week before the midterm was due. So I spent my Spring Break drawing this in 4 days... yeah. I didn't think I could pull it off, but I had to do what I had to do. Got an A on this project; and this was considered my best graphite drawing all semester.

Time: 21 hours.
Dimensions: 10x10-inches with 2-inch white border (not shown).
Medium: Graphite on 3ply 14x14-inch plate Bristol board.

"Kitchen Things" is copyrighted by Frankie Jayme.

EDIT (05-13-09): Fixed contrast.

Woah. I always love looking at graphite drawings that look almost photographic. The contrast between the lights and darks is great - I just love those beams of light. And the perspective really draws me in. I can see why they would call this your best graphite drawing all semester.

It cost my whole Spring Break, but yeah... it was worth it (and the grade) in the end. However, lesson learned: Plate owns Vellum if one intends to blend. Seriously, I like my vellum... but plate would have been soooo much easier to work with.

Dude...you drew this? Rock on in the most extreme way. It looks almost like a photograph. I'd give it an A, only I'm not a teacher. Oh well...

(Unrelated: Bet you thought you'd never see me again, huh? )

Oh hey! I did get an A on this project! Oh ho ho!!! Thanks for the words!

Yeah, I thought you died like CLF. Heh heh, you should make some time and join some of the old CLF members in a chatroom session here on DeviantART (if we end up doing that, which I'm hoping we do).

Huzzah! Artistic ability prevails!

Oh, that would be neat. We could have a whole virtual reunion, complete with virtual snacks.

And nope, I didn't die. I just got sidetracked by college.
