Description

I once saw a documentary about ants. In a part of the movie, it was told that if any ant looked different or behaved strangely, a bunch of other ants took it off quite a bit from the home and then killed it. "f**ckning *ssholes" I first thought. But then it was explained that it was a survival instinct, since odd behavior could indicate that the ant had entered fungal spores in the brain (which could kill all ants) and infect other ants. It is simply a survival instinct. An ant can not determine whether an inequality in the ant behavior / appearance means danger or not, and therefore chooses the most safe option, before the uncertain.

What distinguishes us people from ants is that even though we may have the instinct to perceive danger when we see / meet something different, we have the ability to reflect on whether the danger is real or not. Or at least most of us. However, this does not prevent some people from still acting like ants.

What scares me, is that in a society where information attacks us from all directions, especially "fake news", we seem to forget to reflect, think and learn from our history. When I read about the European elections and how dark powers grow stronger in Europe, I can't help but wonder if we are going against an ant society? Strong voices from leaders who speak based on their fears instead of their brains. People seem to care more about if Kim Kardashians butt is real or not, than to vote in for example European elections. As someone unknown once said "Use your voice, otherwise someone else will use your silence".

Racism also appears to increase in Sweden. It worries me that people in the midst of all the media seem to have become immune to the news of children starving, being in war zones and being exposed to various horrors. Our world is too global to try to segregate people, and instead of focusing on the differences that differ us, we should focus on the similarities that unite us. For one can understand these similarities, it is also easier to feel humility and understanding of each other. And for those who are afraid of the color black, the inhuman situation is that many children are in war countries, is darker than black.
