Description December 19th, 1916. The S.S Beast was sailing through the atlantic carrying 2314 souls aboard along with billions of dollars and thousands of tons of explosives and cargo. She was enroute to Brittany, France to deliver explosives to create ammunition and weapons. Captain Justin Headrough was her captain, and he was most definetely one of the oldest captains of the time. At 88 years of age, people thought he would retire, yet he didn't. As the ship exited the Bay of St lawrence a U-Boat had started following her. This U-Boat was behind the ship for a long, long time. At 12:33 AM, December 20th 1916 the U-Boat got into position to sink the ship. The U-Boats Captain ordered the periscope to be raised, At 12:35 Captain Headrough spotted the U-Boat and ordered the crew to fire at it with their weapons. It wasnt enough. 2 Torpedoes were fired at 12:36 and struck in the engine room and stern cargo room. Instantly, 12 people died and 36 were injured. People immediately rushed to the boat deck to abandon ship. The ship was already listing over to starboard when the first lifeboat was launched without captains orders. The engine compartment had flooded quickly, and the stern was already headed under. 118 people had already escaped the ship before the captain ordered an abandon ship. The crew rushed to get people to the lifeboats, but the water was rising so fast that only 332 people were able to get in the boats before the boats went under. 17 people fell off the lifeboats when they were lowering, killing them. The ship started to go down faster, and the captain was trapped in the bridge due to debris falling down the deck. Water flooded into the bridge as the captain sadly sang the "Retirement Song." The bridge had gone under and people rushed up to the bow. As the ship went vertical, 1882 people had already died. The ship started to go down vertically as people fell from the bow and struggled to get grip. The ship eventually went under, taking 2114 souls with her.
