This is very lovely drawn. I am under the theory that the Changelings are what the Breezies were in Gen 3 (or whatever previous My Little Pony they were in). They fed off the emotions of the land, until one day, the emotions turned bad or something (perhaps Discord, maybe something else entirely. Regardless, they feel and became Changeling (One could argue Changelings DO exist, because we humans have stories and folklore on how to prevent them from snatching away our children, but I digress.)

I believe that the stone can be cast normally with sockets (even if it is difficult, but we have seen it all in the cartoon xD).
I made this scene because I needed a reason to annoy Chrysalis.
If I had given that Chrysalis was a kind of Alicorn of higher rank, like Celestia, I set the story in Canterlot, but honestly I never thought of that. Then I would have to also take into account a relationship with Princess Celestia, in short I twisted the plot. xD
Regarding exclusion I was inspired by the story of Zecora, diversity ago
fear and tends to exclude those who are different.
