I'm afraid to say but the marines with those helmets are remind me SWAT units

Ah, the good old 4X4. Though I would have expected a bit more amour.
I guess I am used to the chassis of a Hummve. But then again, if shielding technology became cheap, perhaps this cheap could stand to a little more ladz gunfire.
By the way, how much ammo is in a mag in a STSAR?
Does it take different variation of magazines? What type of accessories are compatible with it?

Well like I said, this is the light recon version, if you look at my picture "Taking the Bridgehead", there are more heavily armored versions featured. The Cougar uses a standard 4x4 design for the robust and versitile nature of it, and yes, it is a descendant of the Humvee as in my story, designers looked to the Humvee for inspiration. By 2204, Humanity has had little success with shielding technology, though am about to add a new tank to the UERAF inventory that does mix things up a bit in that department...
the STSAR holds 36 rounds standard, but can use several different sized clips. The STSAR assault rifle is compatible with any atatchment or add on that uses the standard rail system. With the modular design in mind, the rifle is really built to be used as a platform to use several weapon modification and attatchments.

I see. Though the ammo capacity is questionable since technology should have advanced to compensate for this, even if a little two-hundred years have past. I have also been thinking of having a panel shield, which it can extend itself to protect the wielder.
It is rather hard to describe, but basically it uses panels to decrease the space and weigh during travel.
It has a metal type that is durable enough to resist plasma fire, but light enough so it isn't a hinderance. Think jackal shield for a minute. Also, by now the URAME should have invested in something to combat those whatever they are called who wield swords in close quarter combat. Something of an extendable sword. A Swiss Army knife/sword if you will. If needed, it can extend as a sword to fight against those who have closed in range enough to see the white's of ones eyes. Not to mention, it can also be shrunk down to a knife if needed for utility or combat purposes. Also, shouldn't they have access to a HUD system of some sort?
Sorry, I am a bit of a Halo geek if you will, and I usually think of ideas from the twenty-sixth century. Also, have jetpacks and flying cars have been invented yet? If humanity hasn't invented repulser craft by this time... I mean we have plenty of scientist who know physics so it is plausible.

dont see how technology would solve ammo problems, ammo is ammo. A what?
well I was thinking more along the lines of actual portable energy shielding but on a larger scale. ( UERMC by the way ) ...huh? Only some have a HUD
XP well yeah, this is only the 23rd century... XP no, flying cars and jetpacks havent been invented dude. That requires nano technology and batteries and I'm afriad that hasnt been invented by then XP being a space faring species is already enough for Humanity at this point, anything over that is pushing it XP

Think of overlapping panels.
Like those on a solar panel, except they overlap each.
They expand to protect the user from stuff such as swords and so forth.
Damn... By now nano tech should be in our brains.
Speaking of which, robots should have taken over by now.
*Grumbles to self about why there isn't any flying cars.*

um... dont really think that'd fit my list of tech XP
um, no? nano tech is difficult to aquire and besides, the public in 2204 is against a big brother government, preventing chips in our brains besides some military personnel.
XP dude it's only 200 years in the future, I doubt nano batteries have been invented by then that would allow for flying cars to be successful in the first place

:/ like I said, only 200 years later
AIs, well, not really. Ships in the Navy and many other military branches and civilians use complex computer programs and subroutines that do the computing work of an AI, but they lack the personality and hologram traits of Halo type AI. There are AIs in my story, but they are limited to an AI like the Superintendent from ODST, requiring a large data core and infrastructure to run it, and they'd be used to run super cities and large military installations. They are also expensive and not as common.

Yeesh.
At least they got somewhere in that department.
Now all we need is some magic to be infused with a robot.
And volia, you got Barney.

well, I dont really know about offering advice. Well, the thing I can think of is to not think that it has to be like a vehicle from a cirtain game or movie, try to think of what you'd want as your own design. Try to think outside the box and try to think what would benefit your universe or your storyline and what your race would design to counter whatever it is they face. Like does it require armor, have suspension, does it favor troop transport over firepower, and design it around that, its what I try to do

Nice! I love the STSAR rifle, i've been trying to come with an assault rifle design myself recently, but i can't get one that i like down...
Keep up the great work!

thanks ^w^ well you have to learn how to come up with something that is uniquely you. I used to not know how to design weapons but here I am, just takes some work

I do that to, i dont know how much money iv'e spent on firearm magazines. It's just im picky when it comes to what i put down.
Thanks for the advice though. The sci fi thing is not a bad idea.

what's a bull pup rifle?

NewLegend1 In reply to Phenixtri [2010-07-17 15:35:59 +0000 UTC]
yeah I know, the purpose of this weapon is to be modular, a design with a clip behind the trigger defeats that idea entirally by taking away an adjustable stock
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Phenixtri In reply to NewLegend1 [2010-07-17 16:03:45 +0000 UTC]
eh true but its also less accurate due to a shorter barrel compared to bull-pup weapons. Its rly just a matter of preference .
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
NewLegend1 In reply to Phenixtri [2010-07-17 16:18:25 +0000 UTC]
that's not true, bull pup weapons are accurate due to longer barrels but have a cut down size due to it so accuracy isnt a factor

ah, well that doesnt allow for an adjustable stock, which is part of the modular system, so no, I dont think a bull pup rifle would have been better

me neither but they can be usfull because most of the barrel is in the back making the weopon shorter and more
compact. i really dont like bull pups either i only have one in my story lol.

yeah plus they increase accuracy of a standard sized weapon but with the accuracy of current weapons, that added boost may be unnecessary. Plus I love the moduability of weapons such as these where you can slap almost any attachment onto it
