Description If you have any objections to that statement, just look at how cool that grave is.
Not everyone who has died in an anime has a nodachi with their cloak tied to its sheath stabbed into the ground at their grave.

A cloak that, even decades and decades later, still remained tied to the eternal sheath on that grave

My boyfriend watched Gurren Lagann and he's almost finished with the whole season. He opened old wounds!

By "He" I assume you mean Kamina. Has he watched the two movies, Gurren-hen and Lagann-hen?

I haven't watch Gurren Lagann for the past few years. And it's kinda hard for me to watch it again, knowing what's going to happen. My boyfriend did mentioned the movies, but I have yet to watch them.

It's just that, Gurren Lagann impacted me a lot in both positive and negative way. It's just so sad to watch good characters die and can't do anything about it. But yet, it teaches us that we must accept that people we love are going to die one way or another one day -- whether it's sooner or later.

If handled right, character deaths can be a good thing. Take Edward Newgate/Whitebeard at the end of the Battle of Marineford for example;
"Throughout the Battle of Marineford alone Whitebeard had received 267 sword wounds, 152 gunshot wounds and 46 wounds from cannonballs β€” adding up to a total of 465 injuries upon his time of death. Despite this, there was not a single scar on Whitebeard's back showing cowardice."
This trivia note also does not take into account that most of his internal organs got cooked in-anime, while in-manga he lost half his face. Considering he died standing on his feet and didn't fall over, THAT is an impressive character death. Were he in his prime, Whitebeard would've easily survived Marineford, but he went in at 72 years old, and being able to hold out that long is impressive upon itself.

I was fine that Whitebeard died. I've seen that episode. I was most sad that Ace died right in front of Luffy. It's just the younger characters get me every time, because they had so much to live for. Kamina was a young man and had years left in him, and with a potential of having a better future. But I acknowledge why certain characters have to be killed off in order for other characters to grow. Thank you for helping me understand a little better

There are several of these images with messages along the lines of "Kamina is more manly than you", but that message is completely unlike what Kamina was all about. Simon thought he would never be like Kamina, but Kamina kept telling him to believe in himself and look what he became.

I'm saying the caption doesn't fit the themes of Gurren Lagann and the character Kamina.
It's as out of place as honoring Carl Sagan by saying astronomy is stupid.

Gurren Lagann was all about believing in oneself and you can see how the caption fails to represent that.

Is it strange that I feel like a fan-girl every time I see Kamina despite being a straight guy? Probably not. His manliness just outweighs other men that much.

NewMystery356 In reply to UniqueSn0wFlake [2011-06-02 18:00:22 +0000 UTC]

That itself is probably the reason you feel like a fan-girl even though you're a dude.

Truthfully, I don't really think Kamina is dead, but that a part of him lives on in anything manly.
Plus he bailed everyone out when they got trapped in the alternate universes by the Anti-Spiral, and you don't see dead dudes do that too often.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

gartastic In reply to NewMystery356 [2010-05-22 19:36:26 +0000 UTC]

Yea i agree with you that he lives on in our hearts. but i think that the part where he bails everyone out of the antispiral universes is a bit ambiguous. it could be that he came back in spirit or that its just everyone's imagination. its really open to interpretation. personally though i think that he came back in spirit from heaven or something like that.

NewMystery356 In reply to gartastic [2010-05-22 21:47:19 +0000 UTC]

Oh, I remember, when Kamina was about to die during the Giga Drill Breaker he said something like, "see you later... Shimon", and then he died, but when he came back and Shimon said, "see you later", Kamina said something along the lines of, "no brother, this time it's goodbye for real". And I don't think a figment of their imaginations would be that clear about his intentions.

KAMINA IS SO MANLY THAT NOT EVEN DEATH CAN HOLD HIM IN ITS CLUTCHES!

P.S.
That one picture you had sent in your first message is exactly how I felt when Kamina died. I thank you for whatever effort you put into it.

gartastic In reply to NewMystery356 [2010-05-23 08:49:48 +0000 UTC]

lol again you could argue that that kamina was a figment of simon's imagination. and saying good bye to it symbolized him being able to stop depending on kamina to bail him out and give him courage. hence good bye for real. but i do agree with you, i like that interpretation but i think that the scene is intentionaly ambigous XD
