absolutely beautiful work man...not much to say that hasn't already been mentioned but it's just a super strong piece and composition, the subject matter is just wonderful. the contrast is stellar and i really like the organic structures that surround the young girl, your mother...the way she's drawn is great and i'm a huge fan of intertwining roots and things of that nature...keep it up as always...perhaps an album cover in the future?

Incredibly life-like and surreal.
Like vintagespin mentioned, I love the use of completely different levels of shade and detail the further back the wood structures are.

How very alice-in-wonderland, or maybe thumbelina. She looks so alone, but not lonely [when one considers her expression and pose]... My favorite of the roots is the one second from the front on the left side. It's the only one that interacts with the her [I just realized], and the detailing of it is extremely interesting.
I wish I knew more about art so I wasn't just babbling about how much I like this. Sorry.

wow. this work is amazing. the shading is amazingly good, and i love how you captured every bump and irregularity in the wood (that's what it is, right?). i just wanted to say that the shading on the little girl's face makes her look as if she's in the sunlight, i think her face is a little to dark considering the shading of the wood around her, and her surroundings. the shading on her face looks as if the light source is directly above her, a little to her front. the rest of the drawing, the light source looks as if it's coming from the right (perhaps a little up, above the middle of the drawing, but not quite at the corner). the shading job, in each seperate respect, is awesome, but i don't think they fit together quite perfectly. also, i don't see the shading on the large foreground (roots, lets call them) root (slightly left of center). they look two dimensional while the rest of the drawing is three dimensional.
but other than that, the drawing is awesome, the face and everything else is perfectly proportional, and i like the feeling of depth given by the the darker shading of the roots in the back, and then the pitch black background.
