My third page done for my own Fairy Tale Theatre Round Robin book project I've been in with =seijikat and *evphaedrielle

Page 03: Shibumi and the Kitemaker

Annnnd here's another page that I intended to be something different than what I ended up with [yes, that elusive Snow Queen page that I can't seem to actually make despite the tries. I SWEAR I'll get that page down before my rounds are up, I swears it >F]

This is a fairy tale I got specifically because I love the artist [Marianna Mayer, told by Mercer Mayer] and I adore it. The color plates in the book are all so pretty and the story is grand. So while I was going through my stuff and happened upon the paperdoll I had stashed I knew she'd become the center to the entire thing [This particular paperdoll was the entire reason my page shifted from "Snow Queen" to "Shibumi" I love the striped pattern of her kimono like crazy and always have -that doll and the same kimono I used for the Nightingale have been with me for about 16 some years now and are finally going to use *_*]

Anywho, I used a mix of aged papers in the background, wood paper for the 'ground'. the Kite is butterfly shaped because it's sort of become my thing with all my papercraft it seems [if you haven't noticed] and the washi paper in the back was used to simulate wind. In the back, I've written in an exert from the fairy tale itself. Over all I think it came out okay, different as they all are, but it represents the Fairytale well enough so I'm good with it =3

Such a gorgeous page and I love how the strings on the kite span from one side to the other, it really draws the eye across the page and to the washi paper. The paperdoll is beautiful and yay for finally getting to use it in something that you can enjoy for a long time. ^__^

Marianna Mayer has been one of my favorite children's illustrators for a long time now, too. She creates such beautiful images in all the work that she does. [We've talked about all this before, lol, but her awesomeness bears repeating. ^^]
