Mmmmmmmmmm... chips. I'm sitting down to breakfast and you're making me crave fried potatoes!!!!

Seriously though, have you considered cropping this. The man's head on the left is really distracting and a little distorted (probably a side-effect of using a 10mm lens). I'd certainly crop to remove him and keep the woman's head at the left hand side of the picture. I'd probably crop on the right too but, since it's a fussy picture (never seen a chip shop that didn't look like that ), I might not worry too much.

However, since there's a reportage feel to this picture, have you considered converting to black and white . That way you can use contrast to emphasise the bits you want.

Love this though. Still hungry!

heheh thats a first for me =-) never made anyone hungry before !!! yes this is def a good example of distortion ! i think the crop idea would def be an improvement !!

i think it wud def make a good b+w pic but not too keen on the feel of digital black and white !! if only i had done it on film !! then i could get stuck in to it in the darkroom!!

heheh

did u have any chips??

Oh it doesn't take too much for me to get hungry for chips. I've not had my chip fix yet (I'll probably stop off in Farnham in the next couple of days since I have to be there and there's two good chippys in the town centre).

As for digital black and white, I'm sure you already know this but there are several different ways to get a black and white image from a colour one. The one thing I'll never do again is to put my camera in black and white / greyscale mode as I never like the results and it's impossible to fix it later. I think the best technique is to use a Channel Mixer in a picture editing tool. Basically, you look at the Red, Green and Blue channels separately and pick what you like best from each. You then "mix" them in the right proportions (e.g. if you like the results that the Green channel gave best, use more of that) and start off with them all adding up to 100%. You can then tweak from there. As with darkroom stuff, don't let rules and numbers hold you back if there's a better picture to be had.

Do you have Photoshop? If so, there's a tutorial here . If not, there's a free picture editing tool called The Gimp (there should be a link to a download for Windows) which will a lot of the things that Photoshop can do, possibly with an even more confusing user interface :-$. There's a tutorial for Black and White conversion in The Gimp here which explains it quite well and gives the options.

Oh, and many thanks for the

Phil
