Description This photo was given to me for free at a flea market.  I took a photo of it so it would show up on the Google Image search.  It is a photo of an entire American B-17 Bomber Army Air Forces Crew dated March 22, 1944.  It is also signed by the men.  Their B-17 Flying Fortress was named "The Feather Merchant".  A bunch of the men have on one piece flight suites.  The third man from the left has on a Model 1941 Army field jacket.  Two men are wearing Officer A2 leather flight jackets.  The third man from the right has on a Model 1941 Army field jacket.  The second man from the right has an Enlisted gunner's leather jacket with off white sheep skin lining.  The man on the far right has a olive drab wool knitted sweater.  Many of the men are wearing either cloth billed green hats, or Overseas Garrison Flat Caps.  The man second from the right with the enlisted sheep skin lined bomber jacket is wearing a Model 1941 wool knotted "Jeep Cap".  A couple of the men are wearing leather gloves.  The names from left to right, Leonard E. Whitley, Thueel  Whartrim, Walter C. Propin, Charles R. Chuck, W.E. Waddington, Sos. Thompsm, Al. Vargo, Al Ahmon, Guess Who?, Alder Glessner. Kon Strabzg.  There are a couple of names at the far right that might be the "Guess Who?" and maybe the person taking the photo?  I might have misspelled a few of the names, it is hard for me to read some of the hand writing.

I have found information that there was a different B-17 with the same name, "Feather Merchant" which was shot down in 1943.  Several of the crew of that aircraft were killed, and the rest were prisoners of war.   The aircraft shown here in this photo might be the replacement aircraft with the same name flown latter in 1944.

Here is a link to the Urban Dictionary definition of "Feather Merchant".  A term I have heard used in old War Movies.  Hope these loafers had some easy "Milk Runs" over Nazi Occupied Europe.

Very interesting historical photograph, and narrative.
All Veterans, and especially those of WWII, can never be
thanked enough for their sacrifice in keeping America free.

I felt the photo belonged here on the Internet, rather in a junk pile at a flea market.  The photo might get damaged, fade, and be destroyed by time.  At least I uploaded it to the net.  Maybe somebody might remember these guys?

Maybe "Guess Who?" was the original owner of the photograph, a member of this crew.
