Description The legendary Grantchester Meadows, immortalised in the Pink Floyd song of the same name and the site of Syd Barrett's first mushroom trip. Nearby is the famous tea room 'The Orchard' in which Rupert Brooke ("The most handsomest man in England") and Virginia Woolf among others would take their tea among the apple trees.

Truly one of the most beautiful places in the world.

This photograph is dedicated to Syd Barrett who died on the 7 July 2006.

In the lazy water meadow I lay me down.
All around me golden sun flakes covering the ground.
Basking in the sunshine of a bygone afternoon
Bringing sounds of yesterday into this city room.

I really like the colours. How did you get them like that?

Just having a massive fettling (I must attribute the creation of this word, or at least its present incarnation in the PS-doctoring sense, to ) session on the levels to create something that I liked. Thanks for the compliment.

Wow! I was in Cambridge a few weeks ago, and walked along the river to Grantchester and the Orchard. So many literary lumiaries took tea there, but when I went it was just tourists with cameras and families with children. Apparently Rupert Brooke used to swim naked in the river in the middle of the night. I never knew Syd had first encountered psychedelia there. He had just died when I got there. Anyway, beautiful picture, it reminds me of that day. I love that vintage feel and the complimentary colours. Shine on!

The same walk that I did. We stopped at a tea room in Grantchester that my sister reccomended to us and whose name I can't for the life of me remember. It was ran by an amiable and loquacious old lady whose house and gardens served as the grounds - needless to say her scones and clotted cream were outstanding. The nice thing about it was that there were no other people there, with The Orchard leeching all the tourists in with its history. I'd love to take tea at The Orchard in the winter when it's less busy.

Was it coincidence that Syd had just died or was it a pilgrimage of sorts. I see you are a fan of Syd's from the photo where you are sleeping and you have been drawing Syd.

oh, cool... i have some relatives who live down there too - my cousin and her husband. She moved to Cardiff for his job but she used to lecture at the university oftentimes. I can safely say I have never found anyone on dA who lives in the pit that is 'Marple' haha.
