Hey folks!

Well, this week ended in a bit of a maelstrom of activities and thus, I missed Thursday and Friday's posts altogether. However, that I didn't have time to upload doesn't mean there's not artwork, so here's Thursday warm-up piece, continuing my ALIENS tribute series.

As I've said in earlier posts about my illustrating this classic sci-fi film, it's hard to settle on a few characters to tackle when there were so many awesome performances and unforgettable scenes. But, as time is a luxury I don't have in abundance, my favorites had to be chosen and amongst them the android Bishop is one of them.
Lance Henriksen was said to have been James Cameron's first choice to portray the eponymous T-800 in "The Terminator, his thinking being that since these machines were meant to blend in, who better than aregular loking guy to play the part. That, of course, didn't happen in the end but Henriksen did get to play another "artificial person" and I think one that made him as memorable as Arnold's own. Because while in the first film the android Ash was an almost flawless human equivalent, it is obvious that the company decided against such models after they went homicidal on their crews Bishop is obviously eerie and eternally calm and composed, giving him a creepy aura judging by what we know of these machines from ALIEN. And that's something that Cameron plays with until the last moment. Ultimately though, what's queer about this character is that he's compassionate and kind, willing to give his life for his human creators even against his own judgement; a nice bit of philosophical wondering on Mr. Cameron's part about who's more humane, certainly.

So, in trying to capture all of Bishop's demeanor, I chose this line in particular which I think defines him wholly. I also am very satisfied with Henriksen's likeness here, which is one of the best I've done so far.
